Discussion: Trump Glass Half-Full On Losing House: 'It Was Very Close To A Complete Victory'

But it wasn’t a complete victory. It was a defeat. The Democratic House of Representatives will issue subpoenas right and left, because you lost. Look at the economy, look at the wars we aren’t fighting – and your team lost. You’re supposed to be a leader for your party (and your country, but I digress…). You are instead an anchor on your party.

I hope you don’t obsess over the fact that you lost. That would be sad (or unhealthy).

This was a tactical R defeat while being a strategic victory for them…

The senate is locked up until 2024…

Mueller better have a bomb to drop…

No, losing the House is not a strategic victory. The Senate faced a hopeless map, was Republican already, and lost a net of two or three seats.

Democratic self-flagellation looks idiotic.

But then how else are people to supposed to engage in maudlin bullshit

The whole outcome was a strategic R victory, clearly the House is a setback. Florida and Ohio were groin-shot loses for the Ds. McConnell, if told what the outcome would be before the vote would be ecstatic at prospect of the results…

Name me one significant win outside the House that the D’s can leverage for the 2020 election. Sorry Wisconsin doesn’t cut it…

The real power is wielded in the Senate, not the House and I strongly suggest you examine the 2020 and 2022 senate elections…

Uhm…yeah. If you exclude the MASSIVE victory of winning the House, as well as Wisconsin governor and a few trifecta state leaderships across the country, the restoration of voter rights in Florida, and anti-gerrymandering laws in several states; it was a total defeat for us. We suck and might as well go home because we can’t smite our foes in every race.

Meanwhile, in reality, this was a huge defeat for Republicans and the only reason they held the Senate was because the map was slated for them this time. Your entire prognosis is backwards, as they had a strong economy, the presidency, the entire rightwing propaganda machine, and a map that was slanted heavily for them. And now they lost the ability to pass ANY legislation without Democrats, while giving Democrats subpoena power that didn’t exist before 2015. In other words, you’re declaring this a victory for Republicans because they didn’t lose EVERYTHING.

Honestly, if the only thing we get out of this politically is to see Trump’s tax returns, that’s a major win for us. Once it turns out he’s a conman with dubious sources of income, his supporters will want to talk about him even less than they do already.

Given the anger that existed on the left, this was at best a modest victory…

With all due respect, the map is terrible for the D’s every year in the senate going forward, check it out

The R’s kept everything they absolutely needed to keep and they won the key Gov. races in Fla and Ohio… Wisc. and Kansas are small potatoes…

Hey, don’t get me wrong, I am thrilled about the House, but given this was a Trump refereredum and the supposed Year of the Woman, this was no great Dem victory…

Who cares about anger among the left? We can’t win elections on angry liberals. The biggest reason we won this election was Obamacare, not angry liberals. Trump is just a symptom of Republicans and nothing but a distraction. It was predicted in 2012 that this would be a tough year for these Senators because they rode in on Obama’s coattails, so I fail to see how it’s a defeat that we didn’t win states we shouldn’t have had in the first place. Winning the House is a HUGE victory that wasn’t predicted two years ago.

The big mistake liberals make is to pick the hardest battles as The Mountain to Die On and then act shellshocked when they barely lose an election that shouldn’t have been competitive. Beto got more votes in Texas than Obama in either election, coming within striking distance of victory, and he’s just a nobody state legislator from El Paso against a national Republican supported by Fox News and the president. Sounds promising to me.

This proves it… the man is delu-u-u-u-usional…

And you sir, are very close to being half a complete flatworm.

More importantly, how did Hillary pull this off?

And this is a perfect demonstration of what I mean when I say he wouldn’t hesitate to quit if things came to that - he’d walk away and claim victory and the most successful administration in all of history. The history of all mankind, not just our history.

No kidding.

Trumpp is out there bragging because he was able to get a conservative white male elected over a progressive black female in Georgia, and he only managed that because Georgia administered multiple heavy doses of voter suppression. Why the hell would that have us hanging our heads in shame and shuffling away?

We should be high-fiving and getting ready to put another two years of work into building on 2018 and blunting the effectiveness of the voter suppression techniques. Florida voters already took out a big one there, restoring voting rights to over 1.4 million people.
