Discussion: Trump Formally Announces Mattis' Nomination To Lead Defense Dept

The Dems need to stuff this guy in a plane and ship him back to the front. No business leading the DD at all. It’s a civilian post for a reason.

Mattis left soldiers to die like dogs.

Worse than Hillary.

Sad!

Any marginal respect I had for Mattis is dissolving. Why appear at a stupid Trump Rally, post election? WTF is that? Even granted the rally was held on the outskirts of one of the largest Army bases in the country. This guy is supposed to be one of the few dignified credible people in the Cabinet of Clowns?

Typical of Republicans–the law is the law, except when it’s inconvenient.

It would be nice if Obama would threaten to veto the bill unless this provision is stripped out, but he would never think of it. Even the NYT knuckled under, and if you look in the letters column, criticism of their editorial was very muted. Which did not reflect the letters they got. I know, because I wrote one about this that was anything but muted.

Democrats need to fight this like it is no tomorrow. This sets back decades of precedent of having civilian leadership over the military. I would never vote for giving a waiver for an retired general to lead defense of this country. This man will have us in every war in the world. Military commanders don’t see the civilian side of things, but only what the military wants which means the defense industry on making bombs, planes, and ships which profits giant defense corporations and not the US voters. Also, usually the military personnel and the needs of their families get left in the dust.

AND this is the first of MANY laws that the Trump Administration is going to try and break just to see who caves. Watch.

A rally isn’t ā€œformal.ā€ Can we not normalize Big Orange’s circumvention of actual transparent press conferences?

Better get your scorecard ready!

[/quote]Laws? We don’t need no stinking laws. We ARE the law; and the purveyors of fake news; and the new, facts-be-damned reality.

…and ā€˜We WON dammit. We do what we want!’ out of the mouths of the surrogates…

Republicans are willing to shut the government down to get this guy in if they can’t change the law about how long he’s been a civilian. Seems that they want to shut the government down any time they don’t get their way.

Flynn, when he’s not retweeting fake news stories, is already up for WW3. Trump’s fascinated by nuclear weapons. What could go wrong?

You know… I’m less upset about their threat of a government shutdown, now that it’s their government…

It’s harder to get away with holding your breath in protest when you have a majority in both houses and the Presidency…

Trump ONLY picked him since he liked the name ā€œMad Dogā€.

No foolin’.

Then I guess we are all lucky that he didnt pick Chris ā€œMad Dogā€ Ruso, formerly of Mike & The Mad Dog on WFAN. I guess since he was not on Howard Stern’s show, Donald was unaware of him and his nickname.
