Conservatives are mocking America today, as they celebrate the huge sale of guns at unregulated gun shows following the Florida school shooting.
Republicans favor strong gun sales. Massacres are good for the gun business. So, whereâs the conspiracy, NRA?
Trumpâs daughter and senior adviser, Ivanka Trump, expressed uncertainty when asked whether arming teachers would make children safer
Seriously, does anyone even care what Ivanka has to say?
Top issue is make Trump great again.
If our Governors have any self respect they would do a Mexico, not show.
The top issue for Fat Donny Two Scoops for discussion at the gov meet is whether it is appropriate to raise funds off of death and destruction (and the one student he actually visited)
âTrump is taking steps toward banning gun bump stocks and strengthening background checks for gun purchasers. The President has made his intent very clear: âmaking our schools and our children safer will be our top priority.ââ - Trump re-election campaign email Saturday sent with above photo
âI think weâre going to have a great bill put forward very soon having to do with background checks, having to do with getting rid of certain things and keeping other things, âŚ"
Spoken like a president who knows the issue, the details, his own firm convictions about how to deal with gun violence. He has obviously had a lot of ideas fleetingly pass by his semi-consciousness.
Well, letâs give him some credit. He liked the sound of the word âcomprehensiveâ in front of the term âbackground checksâ because itâs marketingy, you know, sort of as an intensifier like âstrongâ or âvibrant,â and of course he didnât know what it meant. Then someone took him aside and says NRA no likee, and then he stopped saying it. Technically thatâs a form of learning. Soâyay?
The tell for me is that Trump hasnât said one word about restoring the funding for the school safety and mental health programs that the current budget proposal cuts. He has, however, talked about leaving âitâ up to the states, which is more code for, âwell, if you can find the money, go ahead.â
And the governors are going to tell him they donât have the money. The states donât even have money to provide schools with basic supplies, with sufficient teachers to keep class sizes down. They have cut a lot of the âextrasâ â art and music.
Theyâre also going to tell him they arenât going to raise taxes to fund the kinds of things Trump recommends for âhardeningâ the schools, much less for guns for some percentage of their teachers to carry.
Mass shooters donât pick schools and churches because they are gun-free zones. They choose them because often, schools and churches have been places of exclusion and hypocrisy. Places where they were bullied, where teachers, guidance counselors and pastors failed to help.
I watched one pundit after the other on the Sunday shows prattle on and on about how there was no point in taking any steps toward regulation. Thereâs probably some truth to that, as the proposals floated do nothing to reduce the number of guns out there.
And yes, it is the guns that are the problem.
It will be the top issueâafter he recounts his electoral win, praises himself for the tax cut, recites his CPAC poll numbers (93%âcan you imagine?), bashes Democrats, Bob Mueller and the âphonyâ Russia investigation and, of course, the #fakenews media. Then the allotted time for the meeting will have elapsed and heâll come out and say how very productive meeting wasâthe best meeting, with all the best people.
Anyone catch Kentucky Governor and racist blowhard Matt Bevin on NPR this morning? He stammered and gish galloped all over the place to avoid talking about guns. Apparently heâs a big fan of mental health though, repeatedly blaming mass shootings on âdepressed teensâ, which seems totally consistent with his policy of gutting Kynect. Between his cowardly hypocrisy and Jonah Goldberg blathering on about how although âTrue Conservatives â˘â donât like what Trump is doing to the movement, conservatism has never been healthier. Oleâ Jonah actually said that conservatives are in the midst of a âbohemian renaissanceâ. What a bunch of pathetic motherfuckers these guys are.
âTop issueâ my azzâŚTop priority with Donnie is first and foremost Donnie followed by a litany of what he considers his âgreatest hitsâ.
YES! You could hear Steve Inskeepâs frustration as he tried to get a simple yes or no answer from Bevin. Pathetic.
Iâm sure the very stable genius will effectively lead a productive and forward-looking roundtable discussion.
Trump said the governors are âvery, very special people.â
âThe job you do is really incredible. Itâs not easy, but weâre very proud of you and weâre very proud to have you here,â he said as tall candles flickered and bouquets of hydrangeas adorned an assortment of round and oblong dinner tables.
Previewing Mondayâs talks, Trump said they would also discuss the economy âand many other things.â
The important question nobody is asking: What are we doing to boys to make them so angry that a few of them come back to shoot up the school? Do we have more young men filled with rage because we have more single moms? Is it because schools now treat boys as if they are defective girls? Is it related to all the ADHD diagnosed now and the drugs used to treat it? All those things are new, guns have been around for centuries; but shooting up the school is new.
