Of course, because myths are so much easier to build your case upon… especially to an undiscerning crowd.
In fact, Obama is the only one in a position of authority among a GOP Congress and the Executive who has tried time and again to get Congress to address gun violence.
When will we (in general) learn?

Tomorrow morning I would like to see the FBI director, the AG and every large city police chief and commissioner including Bratton here in Trump’s hometown schedule a press conference and refute Trump’s and Manafort’s flat out lies (Truthiness!)and their sorry selves.
The Speech: I don’t know that I have ever been so embarrassed, it’s awful.
In fairness, the crime rate was definitely down…until the Trump campaign got going. Now, who knows?
You will never convince old white people Trump is not telling the truth. After all they still watch Action __ News, where there is a new crime every night.
The one thing I learned from watching the RNC convention this week, is that America is a real shit hole…Never knew that before…
I blame Colbert. He started the convention with the “Hungry for Power Games” motif and DonHo felt compelled to run with it. Drumpf had a focus in his speech (if a madman can have a focus)

The crime rate doesn’t change much. It’s the # of convictions that fluctuates.
There’s a big uptick in shaky, grainy cell phone videos of crime.
I’m an African American boomer. I have lived in NY, Chicago, Pittsburgh, inner city/suburban, and rural at a state university. I have traveled to many places inside/outside the US. I have never seen any violence is my 60 plus years. Only fight I ever saw was during elementary/middle school years. I have never even seen a car accident…only the mangled car. I never touched a gun until about 4 years ago. Have only heard gun fire twice in my life and others had to tell me it was gun fire. The only violence I have seen was on the TV and at the movies. I’m sure my life is not unique.
Trump is in trouble here, exactly because of “truthiness”. I mean, no matter what his statistics (true, false, or misleading) it just doesn’t FEEL unsafe to most of us. He cannot make me afraid by arguing I should be.
Even to the extent that crime (or more precisely, gun violence) is rising and creating fear, it is in cities. And those citizens are minority and Democratic, and will never vote for Trump anyway.
Trump has a bad strategy here–unconvincing to the persuadable, and meaningless to those who might listen.
I know that for many many years it is a given that the GOP will go overboard with the flags etc… but this time it does appear from the pictures that they have doubled/tripled down on the fascist trappings, flags, extremely large pictures, and so forth… that one picture of The Donald immediately brought to mind 3 images, (1) Hitler, (2) Il Duce and mostly (3) 1984…IMHO those are not the images I’d want people to walk away with. Cap those images with blantly lying, demi godding, racism, etc and leaves me in fear for what we are doing to ourselves. That for sure is not the fear The Dumpster wants us quaking about.
