Discussion: Trump Dodges Detailing His Plan To Build A Southern Border Wall (VIDEO)

Discussion for article #246139

It´s going to be a beautiful wall.

I have several reasons to think that Trump´s esthetic sense is at some variance with mine.

Because that’s what conservatives believe elected officials should do – tinker with money and see if maybe something good possibly comes out of it.

That should make the oligarchs sleep comfortably at night, knowing their guy is “playing” with their corporate balance sheets.

think about it…that war continued the ‘manifest destiny’ theory that was sweeping the nation back then. Plus he doesn’t have a logical way to force that receipt on them, so…

TPM:

“We’re going to have a trade deficit this year of $58 billion. The wall is going to cost a fraction of that, maybe $10 or $12 million,” Trump said.

Let’s see: the US-Mexican border is about 1,945 miles long according to Wikipedia, or roughly 10,270,000 feet… So Trump expects to build the wall at about $1 per foot.

Right. You know, for a self-alleged billionaire, this guy doesn’t seem to be too good at math.

Oh come on , paying for The Wall isn’t in Trumpys script . ( If you don’t know , blind them with science ) . /s

I agree… a way to expose Trump’s bluster for the bullshit that it is is to force him to discuss it in greater detail. Perhaps something like this:

“Mr Trump, the Trump Wall (as I am sure it will be known) is going to be a HUGE construction project. As with all big projects they are not paid for all at once. The contractors will expect to be paid as significant mile stones are passed. Since you have made it clear that under your plan the federal government would not be responsible for paying for it, will you personally guarantee these progress payments in the event that Mexico is late? Or will you just leave the contractors and their workers twisting in the wind and on their own?”

Oh…It’ll be so beautiful and classy you won’t believe it."

Ironically, from your side note, Trump´talked about invading Mexico at a meeting of the ¨Friends of Abe¨

Lincoln, of course, was not re-nominated by his own party because he opposed the Mexican-American War.

And nobody in the media asks Trump how much it will cost for the eminent domain of putting wall on people’s property and who will pay for that!

Typical, Trumpster has thrown out all kinds of something which I find hard to call ideas because not a single one of them has had any substance behind them. To be taken seriously the words need to be followed with details, it is not enough to say “don’t worry it will be ugh”. Just WTF does that mean? For me it means, empty air.

Trump dodges detailing his plan to (insert any of his plans here).

Poor Donnie, he’s completely out of his depth.

He’ll hire people for that…planners…yea that’s it…he’ll hire planners…

His followers don’t need no stinkin’ plans, they just want to hear about the results…he’s only slightly less fucked in the head than they are…

As a structural PE, I can tell you that a 20’ tall wall about 15" thick is a about a yard of concrete per lineal foot. The footing would be another yard per lineal foot. Installed concrete would run about $300-$500/yard, so that would be $600-$1,000/lf. But you are also in a remote area, so that would definitely increase costs due to the logistics, you’d be looking at $1,000/lf minimum, one thousand times his “estimate”. And that is just the concrete. You also have to excavate and backfill. You will need housing for workers, supplies, mobile temp power, etc.

Plus you still only have a 20 foot wall. Not too hard to go over, plus it can be tunneled under.
