Discussion for article #243542
Republican consultant Eric Fehrnstrom noted that Trump’s proposal could give him a boost with evangelical Protestants, an important subset of caucusgoers in Iowa.
I must admit I take anything Eric “Etch-a-Sketch” Fehrnstrom says with a few grains of salt…
If I thought Trump had a strategy about anything, I’d say that’s a plausible theory. But monkeys flinging poo don’t really think about things like “strategy.” Monkey flings poo, monkey gets reaction, monkey flings more poo.
I’d certainly agree with that—he probably doesn’t have enough sketched-out strategy to fill up the back of an envelope. But emotionally, falling behind in any poll tends to make him panic; that’s when the really bizarre stuff seems to erupt. I’m guessing it’s a near-involuntary stimulus-response thing we’ll see more and more.
