Discussion: Trump: Dinging Jeb About 9/11 Was As Clever As Inventing The Paper Clip

Next… he’ll say he’s the one who thought up how to get rich by fucking other people through

the bankruptcy process … and the crowd goes WILD ! —

“Don’t forget I’m the one that, when Jeb would say, ‘The country was
safe when my brother was president,’ I said, ‘Excuse me, the World Trade
Center came down.’ Do you know, nobody thought of that?” Trump told the
Times. “It’s like the paper clip. Nobody thought about the paper clip
except for the guy that thought of it, and he became rich. And everyone
else said, ‘Why didn’t I think of that idea?’”

Wm D. Middlebrook invented the paper clip in 1899 when he was employed in an invention office. Trump seems to think he became fabulously wealthy. Truth is, not so much as The Big Mouth thinks.

I gotta say I find Trump’s over riding and epically excessively arrogant ego annoy the fuck outta me. I really hope he gets the nomination and then has his ass handed to him in the general election such that he loses every.last.electoral.college.vote.

In fact I bet he’s never heard of the Electoral College.

The modern Gem paperclip was never patented and its inventor is unknown. So, basically assuming a desired state of facts into existence unsupported by objective reality.

A day ending in “y” in other words.

But once Trump loses the Electoral College, he’ll tell everyone that he always said it’s rigged and needs to be reformed. And all the people who supported George Bush’s Presidential selection in 2000 will nod their tiny little hypocritical pinheads in agreement.

Just because Jeb was a dope that doesn’t make Trump a genius.

OK, which colossal assclown at the NYT actually believes that Trump has a “unique ability to bring fresh thinking to old issues”?

“Johan Vaaler, a Norwegian inventor with a degree in electronics, science and mathematics, invented the paperclip in 1899. He received a patent for his design from Germany in 1899, since Norway had no patent laws at that time. Johan Vaaler was an employee at a local invention office when he invented the paperclip. He received an American patent in 1901 – patent abstract “It consists of forming same of a spring material, such as a piece of wire, that is bent to a rectangular, triangular, or otherwise shaped hoop, the end parts of which wire piece form members or tongues lying side by side in contrary directions.” Johan Vaaler was the first person to patent a paperclip design, although other unpatented designs might have existed first.”

I actually thought of the paper clip first before that guy, but I just made them for myself.

All of them?

The right really does have amnesia. Remember the time Dana Perino said that Bush kept America safe from terrorism?

In fact I bet [Trump]'s never heard of the Electoral College.

Yes, he sees it as a competitor to Trump University.

So far three different inventors of the paperclip in this thread alone.

And not so surprising because actually there are many, many inventors of most things. The light bulb wasn’t invented by Thomas Edison, it was Swann. Edison made a better one.

Even the Web was invented by Ted Nelson (Xanadu), only he never made it work.

Point is that what Trump was the first to realize was that a Republican nominee could advance himself ahead of the competition by rejecting the legacy of the Bush administration. There was absolutely no need for Trump to fall in line and say how wonderful GWB was, he could point out that the man was a failure and the base would applaud.

It would be nice if some Democrats would take a similar stand on issues like taxes, the bloated military budget and Israel.

Lots and lots and lots of paper clip inventors:

I was enraged to hear people saying no terrorist attacks in the USA when W was president. How stupid are people? Millions of people were glued to the TV on 9/11. I feel like I am living in an alternat reality.

You really have to read the entire interview, held at the Trump Tower of course because he wouldn’t deign to come to the ink stained offices of the newspaper whose RW columnist David Brooks wrote a month ago

Donald Trump is epically unprepared to be president. He has no realistic policies, no advisers, no capacity to learn. His vast narcissism makes him a closed fortress. He doesn’t know what he doesn’t know and he’s uninterested in finding out. He insults the office Abraham Lincoln once occupied by running for it with less preparation than most of us would undertake to buy a sofa.

Trump is perhaps the most dishonest person to run for high office in our lifetimes. All politicians stretch the truth, but Trump has a steady obliviousness to accuracy.

If dinging Jeb Bush about 9/11 was as clever as inventing the paper clip then Trump would *already" be in office. But he isn’t and won’t be because he’s nothing more than a buffoon who is clueless about politics as he is about governing. The office of President isn’t a good place to be “learning on the job”. Several times since last July we have been witness to Trump belatedly coming to various realizations about the process of running for office. The latest being running is more that TV speeches and sound bites. It’s knowing how to build an organization in every state with a caucus or primary and then making sure those delegates are truly in your camp for the 1st vote at the convention. I think Trump will come up short and lose to Cruz on the 2nd ballot. That’s my prediction. I’m not sure which GOPer, Trump or Cruz is worse.

A lot of people are convinced GW Bush took office after 9/11/2001 or after hurricane Katrina in 2005 and the Great Recession happened totally during Obama’s term. People can be made to believe anything. Actual proof isn’t needed.

Like most academics I’m a knowledge addict. But knowledge of which is worse (Donnie Drumpf or Karnival Kruz) is knowledge I will happily forgo.

BTW, I think it goes more than two ballots, because not all the delegates are released on the second ballot.
