Well, yes, we wouldnā€™t, because Washington had no academic or professional background in law, you historically illiterate fuck.

Not to mention he owned slaves and did not think women should own land or vote!

What a stupid statement from a stupid man.

Last I heard, President is an elected position.

I know itā€™s not strictly a requirement, but presumably youā€™d want someone with at least some background in the subject matter, yes?

Is it possible thereā€™s an autodidact out there whoā€™s well-versed enough in the the technical details and history to serve on the Court? Yeah, probably. Would it be fair to describe that person as having ā€œno academic or progressional background in law?ā€ I donā€™t think so.

Since weā€™re playing time travel - I wouldnā€™t vote for teenage girl rapist thomas jefferson thatā€™s for sure.

Wasnt suggesting. But say someone who wasnt a lawyer, who had been a really good Governor, or Secretary of State, or some position, not anyone currently in the GOP ranks at any levelā€¦but the comment I was responding to seemed to reflect the belief that lawyer was a requirement.

An autodidact or The Good Will Hunting of Da Lawā€¦

he was a great, a tremendous general, just like 45* !!!

At one point back in the 1980s the New York Review of Books was pushing Barbara Tuchman for the Court. The justices have staff to deal with the strict legalities, while someone with a much wider perspective on society and history would handle the ā€˜thinkingā€™ part.

ā€¦and heā€™d be a rotting puddle of bones and organic muck, unable to speak or think.

Understood. And given the absence of a constitutional requirement, I can see something like that possibly making sense especially in the early days of the country, but I think it would be nuts to appoint a legal neophyte now. I guess maybe it hinges on whether weā€™re appointing Washington after his presidential term of office, or whether weā€™re appointing time-travel Washington in 2018.

Soā€¦an improvement on four of the current justices.

Yes, largely because of him being dead and all. A skeleton would also a be better rep than most of the GOP. I would rather a pile of bones than Roy Moore, McConnell, Ryan, Jordan, Nunes

Of course not, fool, heā€™s dead.

True, but heā€™s an example of somebody whoā€™s done an amazing job and is being recognized more and more.
