I smell a strike. I just hope they do it in time for the grifting, taxpayer-teat suckling monopoly known as the National Football League to lose those millions and millions in Super Bowl ad revenues. And, of course, pushing the Dotardâs disapproval (currently at 67%) numbers up even higher.
The NFL may lose the ad revenue but I bet the Super Bowl ads will be shown. The network that hosts the Super Bowl will put some spectacle together so not to lose out.
I donât think so. Trump and the right turned the kneeling protests away from the issue of police brutality and into the flag, national anthem and the military. The players arenât even close to climbing that hill, let alone giving up their livelihoods about it.
The reality is, the vast majority of players werenât all that interested in protesting police brutality, they just took issue with Trump targeting them. They made their statement, and now they are ready to move on.
Once the right locked in the meme that the flag+anthem = military, it was already over.
SoâŚthe lasting legacy of this President will be âI got those colored boys to stand for the flag that represents a government that does not treat them equally!â Terrific.
Nothing like compulsory displays of ârespectâ to show true sincerity.
Yet another moronic statement from Donnie.
Is this is what the Dotard-In-Chief considers a âvictoryâ, he obviously has set a very, very low bar for himselfâŚ
Personally, Iâd love to see the NFL Players goose-step onto the field instead. Would be more relevantâŚ
Iâm a glass half full person by nature and I think black players really rattled the cages of the uber conservative NFL in a way that hasnât been doneâŚever. The NFL is the one sport where owners hold dominant sway because there are no guaranteed contracts and the career span of the average NFL player is short. As the game gets more passing/spacing focused and a culture of protecting against head injuries begins to permeate the league with the next generation of players, careers will be longer and the players will get more power.
The players forced NFL owners to bow and nod to their power. Had this happened a year ago, the outcry against the players wouldâve been severe. The specter of Trump made it possible, even justified, the playersâ mass kneeling and protest. This will impact how the NFL is run from this point forward from labor relations to political involvement to even who gets admitted to ownership.
The Empire did strike back in a cowardly way, but Goodell holds the power and can make the rules he wants to make if the owners back him. Itâs up to the players now whether they want to keep fighting this or move on. However, I donât think the players will ever truly âmove onâ. There will be other issues, like CTE, where they will now exert their power and push the owners back. The key is though: protesting is great, but power matters. I donât think the players will forget that. I also think this will have a big ripple effect among liberal leaning folks to help understand the value of voting. Voting = power.
I do agree that the empire has struck back and the players will likely (mostly) back down. But I also think they feel empowered by Kaep in a way that was not possible 1 year ago. This wonât be the last battle, but theyâll pick one on terms that are more favorable to them.
Maybe this is the long-awaited âWinâ Donald has needed.
And heâll quit screwing up everything else he Tweets.
No, thatâs too good to be true.
If the NFLPA, and its members, had any self-respect, they would announce that every player in the league will take a knee this coming weekend. No one tells free men, living in a free country, what and how and when to show ârespect for the flagâ. No one. Not the President, not the Commissioner, not the individual owners.
Celebrate, OJ. You STILL have a lifetime BAN from the NFLâŚ
Eh, I donât think the NFL is going to change the rules. It looks too much like theyâre acquiescing to a president most people loathe, one that is extremely unpopular. And viewership is already down due in large part to the fact that so many liberals and people of color are already boycotting over the treatment of Kaep. Implementing these rules after the president called their own players âsons of bitchesâ would look terrible. It would look better to simply do nothing and hope it all passes.
The San Fran players said theyâd be kneeling all season and management is with them.
That is where it all started and its going stronger there than ever. That pretty much precludes victory.
Plus, the NFL in general is a major boost to the economy, if their business suffers-we all suffer ultimately and Trounce has managed to hurt the economy by supposedly winning a fight that heâs completely on the wrong side of.
Pretty much every Trounce win can be put in the âMission Accomplishedâ file. Not really a win, not really accomplished and totally for show horseshit.
Let the boycotts and strikes begin!
Since this is racial targeting of African Americans, theyâre not aiming for sincerity. Theyâre aiming for servility.
It is NOT ABOUT STUBBY TUBBY BUT ABOUT OWNERS GREED FOR WHICH GOODELL IS THE SLOBBERING PUPPET TO.
Again drumpf takes credit for diverting and lying about the real racist behavior that he is the poster boy for.
Why, in the first place, do we play the national anthem at sports events? Are sports the new American religion?
Because the military asked for it. The military uses the NFL and other professional sports to recruit.
Now Trounce the Divider is rubbing it in the faces of the players.
Heâs beaten them down heâs claiming. Thatâs playing with fire.
Notice he never picks on Kaepernick because that would bring it all back to the real meaning of taking a knee.
Trounce has just led the crazy train right back off of the same cliff that they fall for every single time.
So now instead of the protest being narrowly defined as a wake up call regarding police brutality and inequality, its a massive head butting contest between the faux patriotic (Trounce base) and the rest of the nation that cares more about equality than any sport on the planet. Between players and owners, fans and the league and lawmakers vs. states.
If the players are forced to show respect for something that isnât even about that, it wonât be any kind of win for anyone involved.
America is losing and that is how you define a Trounce win.
