Discussion: Trump Congratulates Montana GOPer Greg Gianforte On 'Great Win'

That body slam probably brought a tear to his eyes. Reminded him of his campaign rally days.

You remember, when the white nationalists had his front and the Russians had his back.

I caught some of Gianfortes "Victory " speech,And the people in the room were all in line with Trump.

One person shouted out" you have nothing to apologize for " Wow !

So I guess the 2018 election cycle will show us things we have never seen before,Batten down the hatches and buckle up.

Exactly. The thing that Gianforte regrets is that he personally did the bodyslamming.

The next time it happens, (and it will), a bodyguard will do it. Count on it. He’s now figured out that in the state of MT, there’s no price to be paid for it.

Trump is getting more and more detached from the real world. Check this out. There’s an embedded video that I can’t copy. It shows Trump abruptly getting up from his chair and walking mindlessly away from Netanyahu.

Not so great a win. Republicans had to spend millions of dollars, and have Pence visit Montana on a district where Trump won by 20 pts or more. Not such a great victory to win by 7 pts the lowest a republican has won in that district in two decades. LOL.

One of the issues is that estimates are that up to 2/3 of the electorate voted early and could not change their votes if they wanted to do so. That said, the hardcore base is probably fine with abusing journalists. So long as conservative orthodoxy is maintained more than anything.

This was not really a must win, but does show a shift still. Albit not as strong as the others seen so far. Montana was 20 points for Trump and now is at about a 7.

If more “swing” areas are open to this sort of swing than the Dems should be able to take the House back. So long as the president remains unpopular and keeps doing pretty stupid things.

The concerning thing is that the GOP for sure favors party over country. Whenever anybody hears them talk about American’s, they mean American’s that agree with them more than other politicians of the past did. The sheer anger in the movement is striking.

And what did the DNC do about this race? Who did they send to campaign? Why did they not run a more solid candidate? They don’t have a plan or strategy other than yelling about “Berniebros”.

So sayeth the "Enabler-in-Chief of Criminal Behavior."

A mind is a terrible thing to lose–especially when the FBI is after you and you have a lifetime of criminality to hide.

(I love how Netanyahu tries to pretend it’s all normal by vaguely holding out his arm and half-smiling.)

On that race, I had predicted a narrow Gianforte win (about 4 points) but held out some nominal hope for the possibility of an upset. A 6 point loss does represent a significant improvement for Dems. Trump cost the GOP about 5-10 points. A closer look at the vote tells me a few things:

  1. Quist’s Berner message didn’t inspire voters. He received 40,000 fewer votes than Denise Juneau, the candidate who ran against Zinke for that seat on 11/8. Gianforte dropped nearly 96,000 votes from Zinke’s number. If Quist had simply gotten everyone who voted for Juneau to vote for him, he would’ve won that race by 15,000 votes. My conclusion is that the Bernie promise of socialism as a system changing, voter turnout engaging driver is simply not supported by actual data.

  2. Anti-Trump works in red America, purple America and blue America. Support for GOP did drop significantly in MT b/c of DT. We just didn’t have a candidate who could double down on that trend.

  3. Center left > far left. Bill Clinton proved it. Barack Obama proved it. Most recently, Macron proved it in France.

  4. The real driver of Dem energy is college educated white women, minority voters and college educated whites in general who are driven by an anti-Trump, pro ACA msg. That’s why Ossoff over performed polling and D’s historically in GA-06 round 1, and why Dems have won some notable special elections at the state/local level.

  5. Can’t waste time trying to persuade WWC of our agenda. They don’t care. What does matter is a general message that DT is bad for WWC to reduce their intensity level and improve at the margins, but that can be folded into DT being bad for everyone. They shouldn’t be the main focus, just an incidental one. Only issue I would go mushy middle on is guns.

Plus side - maybe GOP will rethink their typical objections to early voting?

Haha, just kidding! Now they will come up with arguments about early voting just being a major problem in coastal, “urban” areas.

Perhaps our so-called President can offer a tweet of congratulations:
