Discussion: Trump Clarifies Position On Foreign Worker Visas After Debate

Discussion for article #246878

"I remain totally committed to eliminating rampant, widespread H-1B abuse and ending outrageous practices such as those that occurred at Disney in Florida when Americans were forced to train their foreign replacements," Trump continued, referring to reports that Disney World laid off American workers and then hired temporary immigrant workers.

Well, he’s right about Disney. But the thought has occurred to me that 1), Trump might say just any old thing to get elected, and that 2), maybe, just maybe, he might not truly have the interests of American working men in women foremost on his mind.

Perhaps I’m being overly cynical.

If Trump were asked questions by the PRESS about what, exactly, he would do to put his lame-brained thoughts into something approaching reality, then the country wouldn’t be wasting its time on this dope any longer. For example:

Mr Trump:

  1. You say you have a great team of business people who are poised to take on the foreign trade ‘deals’ you insist must be re-negotiated. Who are these people? Are they all from the gaming and hotel industries? Do they have any experience negotiating international treaties?
  2. Your wall scam involves getting another nation to pay for what would become our property on our land. When in history has this ever occurred?
  3. As the noted philosopher steviedee has explained, if you had 8 years to deport 11 million people, you would have to do so at a rate exceeding 150 per hour, every day for 8 years. Have your top business people with great management skills laid out the numbers and logistics here so that we can consider this as anything other than another hallucination of yours?
  4. Everything about America is a disaster, according to you. The debt is currently over $19 trillion and you never miss a chance to bring that up. In light of the toll of the credit card war Bush left us with, and the effects of QE1, 2, and arguably 3, not to mention TARP, et al… exactly what expenditures from this administration are you referring to when you castigate it for racking up such a large debt?
  5. Following the last question, the Obama administration has steadily reduced the annual budget deficits over the last several years. Do you also blame Obama for that?

Every press outlet in the country is cashing in on the Trump Effect. Ratings and advertising numbers are sky high. Is everyone in the press in the tank for Donald? Does the press even care beyond its own self-interests?

it occurs to me that Mr Trump would help improve understanding of his positions and reduce confusion in the press and the population in general if he would disclose what calendar he keys his positions to.

Are they changing abruptly in sync with the lunar calendar, the chinese calendar, the mayan calendar, or some other hitherto unknown distant alien calendar, because it’s pretty clear his changes in positions are not keyed to the Julian calendar.

Edited to correct a typo, something I wish TPM and especially Mr Marshall would do more of.

I was gonna say that a rock could see that, but he is gonna be the next R nominee, so there’s that.

In my field (scientific research), without our H1B hires we don’t have enough highly trained and skilled people to get the work done that we need to get done. The only abuse of the system, from my perspective, is in getting an H1B visa for someone that I’m trying to hire. The process is so convoluted.

Not really complicated.

Trump is attracting the kinds of people who would be invited to sit on his living room couch and believe that they are now equal to Trump in his eyes.

P.T. Barnum would be so proud.

See, here’s your problem, Invited Guest: you have direct knowledge of which you speak. That’s like a boat anchor around your neck. You can cite facts and circumstances that exist. Not good. Come back when you have hazy visions of things you imagined and maybe the public will consider you as a valuable contributor. /s

Probably the saddest group of supposed adults ever to run for high office.
They debased themselves, except for Kasich.
I didn’t watch except for snippets. The rest I depended on TPM and out posting community;

While working at Lucent, our group president, addressing an auditorium full of his R&D staff, informed us that some will be expected to train our replacements in China, and that we should be happy we still had a job for those few weeks.

This from a guy who opened every speech bragging about how he worked his way up to president from a front-line installer. How quickly he forgot what it was like to actually work for a living. What a vile prick.

I was in the next room, but I heard the shouting and juvenile insults being hurled and the moderators trying to rein in the madness. Absurd. Embarrassing.

Like you, I’m sure the relevant bits will be posted for consumption at my leisure. Better to keep my blood pressure nice and steady.

Has a study been done on the donnie’s hair color changes? Or is his hairstylist the only one who knows for sure? There’s got to be some discussion . Maybe it’s coordination of hair color and the skin tone he chooses.

It makes you wonder why a guy with that kind of money can’t get better advice on his clownish hair and spray-tan look.

he realizes that ‘poo’ smells.

These are the people the GOP think are qualified to be President. As I’ve said several times here…I think we’ve been dragged into an alternate universe where traditional reality is non-operative. Evidence? Trump has insulted anyone possible, been crude, vulgar, thin skinned, lacking a cogent set of values and still is the front runner. Any other candidate would go down in flames with one gaffe. Trump, with the assistance of the media is teflon covered. The media refuse to let him burn out. he is making too much money for them. All of them. That’s why you see wall to wall Trump coverage. Every pissing match, fart and shit flinging racists misogynist comment of his is covered…in detail…ad nauseam. His candidacy should have ended at his announcement he was running when he insulted Mexicans as drug fiend criminals and rapists. That would have been reality.

I guess you could say I don’t like trump.

His hair demonstrates his epic level vanity. I am at the limit of my vocabulary to describe his weapons grade vanity and narcissism. I am having difficulty imagining a worse candidate for high office.
THIS MAN HAS ZERO GOVERNMENT EXPERIENCE
This is the equivalent of someone who hasn’t finished high school attempting to do brain surgery. Trump is bypassing
-high school
-College
-medical school
-one year internship
-4-7 years surgical residency,
-20 years experience
and going directly to being the dean of the medical school.
And yet the GOPers are cool with it as are millions of ultra dense and brain challenged voters.

Trump has never held office and yet the GOP is willing to hand him the nuclear codes. That should scare the bejeebers out of anyone with a working brain.
