Why am I getting a tiny bit nervous about this guy? He’s an absurdity, so I shouldn’t. But…is the absurdity an act, and behind the bomb throwing Donald lurks a shrewd strategy to claim the Presidency? Is America just loony enough to vote for him?

Not sure why Trump can’t win the nomination. He clearly has the campaign skills and he is saying all the weird disgusting shit that the people who vote in GOP primaries and caucuses want to hear. And he says it in that bravado fuck all way that the base has been dying for since forever.

How does he NOT win the GOP nomination?

bush was elected because of the war of choice he initiated. People don’t want to change Commanders in Chief in the middle of war, they’re nervous and uncertain about the outcome from the get go. Regardless of how qualified Kerry might have been Rove and bush were smart to know that promoting dumbya as a War President would work.

I genuinely don’t believe he will get the nom because the TRUE GOP power brokers would not allow it. He most certainly can not win the general and, besides, the Rethug 1% (or 0.01%) realize he’s in this for himself. He’s not a politician of any stripe really. He’s attached himself to the GOP like a parasite and has no other choice unless the party gets ugly with him and then he definitely goes Third Party out of sheer spite.

I think the Kochs, DeVos’, Waltons, et al. want the WH much like a prized trophy. He can’t get that for them and, even if he could, he’s way too uncontrollable.

EDIT TO ADD: This was bloody well genius on Trump’s part!! And I mean that in all sincerity. I have no doubt that the true GOP power brokers and pissing themselves because he makes JEB look like the King of Duh.

Trump appeals to low information, white, poor to middle class, “conservative” voters AKA the GOP’s base. If that demographic had the ability to win elections we’d have had a President Pat Buchanan, or a President George Wallace, or Rick Santorum, etc. If these people had their way we’d have had a President Palin (doesn’t matter which one).

However, if we’re looking at recent polling, Trump is building his brand to GOP base voters and that’s it. His standing with Latinos, Democrats, Independents, women, and people of color is just abysmal. Were there an election tomorrow I’m pretty sure the Democrats would have OH, VA, and FL locked down and would be investing in ad buys in TX, AZ, and GA. He would need to pull something like 80% of the white vote in order to win, and that’s just not going to happen.

I find it amusing that this was the year that the billionaires decided to fund and run their own PACs, after concluding that the problem in 2012 was that they gave the money to campaigns and existing PACs instead of keeping it under their control.

Trump went one step further and took direct control of the spending and the candidate.
