Discussion: Trump Camp: Negotiating Wall Payment Now Would've Been 'Inappropriate'

Why would PeƱa Nieto even give this moron time of the day?

Right. Calling Mexicans rapists and drug dealers and murderers is just fine. But negotiating a payment for your wall? That’s what’s beyond the pale.

When did you become Miss Manners, Donnie?

Jackass.

No one was asking him to ā€˜begin negotiations’, but punking out on even mentioning he wanted them to pay is for cowards.

He lied about mentioning the issue, now he’s deflecting away from the lie. This is a meaningless statement.

ā€œHe knows that everything in a business relationship, or now in a diplomatic relationship, begins with relationship, with getting to know people, finding out where there’s common ground,ā€¦ā€

Yes, these two groups of people should be able to find common ground.

I know of cases where a Presidential candidate discussed post-election diplomacy in secret, generally by proxy, but I can’t think of another case like this, where the candidate in fact does open negotiations before even winning office. Am I forgetting something?

Imagine the howling from the press and the conservatives if Clinton went to a foreign government to discuss official US policy. We truly live in backwards world. Trump gets credit for putting on his diplomatic training pants, when in fact he is making a huge faux paus.

So the White Nationalists, racists and xenophobes savior isn’t white he’s Orange. He’s not going to make Mexico pay for a wall you suckers of Orange; you, me and every other non 1 percenter will pay for the wall.

And how will you get Mexico to pay for your wall, Mr. Trump?

ā€œThere’ll be pie in the sky, by and by.ā€

Trumpites may believe that Mexico will pay for a wall. They may also believe in the Tooth Fairy. The one is as likely as the other.

Trump: I will just print Mexican currency and give it to Mexicans to build the wall.

Translation: ā€œbeing told to ā€˜go eat a bag of dicks’ on that wall payment thing didn’t leave a whole lot of room for discussion, so like all my failures I’m going to pretend it’s something I didn’t want to do anywayā€

Trade and human rights issues with a bordering nation that is our 3rd largest trading partner are rightfully and properly the purview of the President. If a President is soon to be succeeded in office and those issues are being debated and litigated in public I think the President owes it to both nations to weigh in with his opinions and public policy stances, contrasted with the changes (or lack thereof) proposed by his potential successors. If Obama thinks Trump’s proposals and intentions are ill advised, dangerous and/or damaging to relations with Mexico, especially as they affect current relations during his administration, he should speak up. President Obama? What say you?

Negotiate? WTF was there to negotiate?
Donnie Drumpf is still a private citizen. WTF would he think he was even in a position to ā€œnegotiateā€ in the first place?

What a hot-air buffoon.

Trump keeps saying that he’ll pay for the wall by either seizing or prohibiting remittances to Mexico, but that isn’t plausible.

The US can’t seize private citizens remittances because, you know, laws. That would be stealing. So you would have to basically prevent them and hope that the pressure to Mexico’s economy would force them to write a check. However, you simply can’t ā€œpreventā€ remittances to one Country unilaterally. Sure, we could prevent an actual remittance from say LA to Mexico City, but that’s not the way reality works. Why not? Because someone will simply open a remittance office in Canada, or Spain, or anywhere and then it would be a 2 part transaction. LA remits to Madrid, Madrid remits to Mexico City. Done. So you would have to actually stop ALL remittances.

But stopping ā€œallā€ remittances won’t work either because things like bitcoin. There are actually bitcoin ATMs now. Not many of course, but there hasn’t really been a market. The way they work is that you put money into the ATM, it converts to bitcoin, transfers the bitcoin, and converts back to cash at the receiving ATM. Remittance to Mexico is about 12 Billion a year. Market established! Of course that isn’t the only way to use bitcoin, but it’s a pretty straight forward one that even old white males could potentially understand.

My point is that Trump would just create a whole industry to get around his silly idea. Heck, for all I know, Trump will invest in that industry and make a killing!

I honestly wonder if Trump thinks the word ā€œnegotiateā€ means something different from the rest of us, given the context(s) in which he uses it.

Even if it were possible, those remittances feed parents, feed younger brothers and sisters, buy them clothes and shoes. It would be a vast and cruel humanitarian disaster that would shock the world. Whatever good the Obama years have done for the USA’s reputation would be gone in an instant.

Trump’s ā€œnegotiatesā€ is everyone else’s ā€œbulliesā€. As witnessed by his ā€œnegotiationsā€ for pennies on the dollar in default, settlements instead of payments, there are hundreds of anecdotes.

Does anyone know of a single deal where Donnie didn’t stiff someobdy???

So the statement is an admission that he lied.

Secondly, what sort of ā€œrelationshipā€ does he think he’s going to build with the President of a country he called rapists, drug dealers, and untrustworthy?

No…I don’t think his base will like his cowardice. He blinked when he had the chance to back up his demagoguery.
