Discussion: Trump Camp. Fundraising Figures Building Up To Beat Sanders And Harris' Combined

The haul brings the campaign’s cash on hand to $40.8 million, an unprecedented war chest for an incumbent president this early in a campaign.

That’s unpresidented.

When you look at his late-night UHF style ads, you realize there are literally thousands of agencies that would work for him for free and probably did in the last cycle too. The actual good stuff costs money and not everyone can do it.

After the tax cut, the little people have a little more speech, but the (real) billionaires gained massive amounts of new speech in their pockets.

All the American (and I’m sure many Russian) oligarchs are throwing money at Donnie. It’s how they increase their fortunes.

Trump’s 2020 campaign is to campaigns as Trump University was to higher education.

It’s not going to matter how much more money the Trump campaign has, Trump will still lose.

Two things to remember:

  • trump is using campaign cash to pay his lawyers.
  • I think it’s reasonable to expect a lot of trump’s remaining cash to be spent at trump properties, etc - trump’s priority will be on enriching himself.

O/T, but isn’t today the day that Bernie is supposed to released 10 years of tax returns?

He’s also using it to pay hush money by putting people who know too much into 15k a month gigs for doing not much of anything. Like a mob sitdown job.

Adelson alone gave him $20M in 2016 to move the embassy to Jerusalem, and $113M to Republicans in 2018 so Miriam Adelson could get the Medal of Freedom.

99%. Ha! What a joke.

Edit: Trump campaign did not disclose the number of individual donors

By contrast, former President Barack Obama launched his 2012 effort in April 2011 and had under $2 million on hand at this point in the campaign.

I getting reeeal tired of AP.
Trump has been raising money for 9 quarters and announced the day he was inaugurated.
Obama had not announced, nor started raising money until 2Q of the penultimate election year.

There is no comparison/contrast, AP. Apples and Orange Blobs.

Trump advertising will energize his base. It won’t convince anyone who thinks he’s a national embarrassment, a walking turd, a con man, a grifter, a pathological liar, a low-grade moron, a sexual predator, or all of the above, to vote for him. Ironically, Trump advertising might further energize Democratic voters, especially if they have trouble finding the “mute” button on their remotes. It also might piss away money that would otherwise go to GOP candidates for other offices.

In short, a Trump fundraising haul doesn’t alarm me very much.

I would love to see a source on that. I want to believe it, and I assume it’s true, but that’s not enough.

Thanks, castor_troy. My immediate thought was this is entirely misleading. Trump is running more than likely unopposed, so of course ALL the GOP money is going to him. The Dems aren’t even running against him yet, they are in primary mode. This disingenuous headline is toxic clickbait that feeds the narrative of Trump’s strength and Dem weakness. I am VERY disappointed that TPM ran this headline. It was even worse over at Vox, where the headine said Trump was “lapping the field” of Dems. Silly, irresponsible, apples to oranges journalism that TPM should know better than to participate in.
