Discussion: Trump Camp Decides It's Time To Hand Over Convention Prep To A Pro

“A veteran Republican operative, Manafort was involved in the last GOP brokered convention in 1976,
when he helped former President Gerald Ford edge past then-California
Gov. Ronald Reagan to secure the nomination. When he set up lobbying
shops in Washington, Trump confidant Roger Stone was his business partner.”

Reagan served two terms in Sacramento, 1967-75. Jerry Brown was governor of California in 1976.

Trump needed some muscle besides the purely baseball bat kind. He was being out maneuvered by Cruz and the ‘organization.’

Lewandowski is good for beating up on civilians and reporters, but it takes heavies like Roger Stone and Paul Manafort to bring the real muscle.

I just hope it’s not too late. Boxes of popcorn might go to waste.

the wheels don’t necessarily have to come off, as long as they go off a cliff…

this could be re-photoshopped with Trump and Lendowski..

…you know why that happens, don’t you?

umm… Tammany Hall had a machine… Mayor Daley in Chicago had a machine… LBJ sorta had a machine…

Donnie has a sno-blower and the training wheels have started to come off that…

I agree. Dionne also raises the possibility that by convention time Trump has disappeared. So I wonder, will he just cut his losses and walk away sometime soon?

IMO he jumped the shark with the stupidly unflattering picture of Cruz’s wife and Anderson Cooper asking him about 5-year-old behavior.

Either he shrinks (Honey I shrank a candidate!!) or it shrinks. Either way Melania will be bummed.

He should’ve went the Clinton route and just hired everyone.

Nice to know Hillary has flexible advisers.

“The Donald” voters really are low information, in that they are clueless of how this system works. My guess would be that, denied their “rights” (which aren’t worth spit if the GOP says so) they’ll either follow the Donald off a cliff on a third party run, or sit home.

Undoubtedly–egged on from the stage by the World’s Greatest Ego–they’re going to think they’re being deprived of democracy, but they’re not. GOP primaries and caucuses (and to a lesser extent I think the Democrats too) are Presidential Preference Primaries. They aren’t voting for the “candidate” they are voting for electors. Electors are professional pols, no matter how much they protest, and professionals LIKE to win.

They’ve been saddled with a series of losers, and are ready for a change. I doubt they see that in the uninformed blathering of the Donald, who is now, as I understand it “under water” with every significant demographic group in the country, except old white racist men.

He has the highest number of them on his side since they stopped being the only ones who could vote.

I doubt the electors will be satisfied with Dominionist Lying Ted, either. His new hash tag is #UnelectableTed. That would be in addition to, not instead of #LyingTed.

Yes, it’s Doug Stamper. We’ve known that all along.

I listen up when E.J. Dionne speaks, but even Jennifer Rubin the right wing columnist at WaPo is saying something similar. However, she’s not cheering trump’s loss as we are, just predicting it and saying it’ll be devastating for the party and down ticket ballots.

Trump’s going to be the nominee. If I had a couple dollars for every time I’ve heard he was toast over the last year, I’d have almost as much money as he has.

Melania insisted on it.

Not quite. The Roger Stone partnership deserves emphasis and inclusion on that list. He sure has the distinction of consistency.
