DOJ might decide to prosecute him, but politically it’s not enough to impeach on. Even though they are felonies.
No Smocking Gun
Pressure pushing down on me
Pressing down on you, no man ask for
Under pressure that burns a building down
Splits a family in two
Puts people on streets
It’s the terror of knowing what the world is about
Watching some good friends screaming
“Let me out!”
This is not hyperbole: Trump could shoot someone on the White House lawn, on live television, killing them, and he could muster 34 Senators to vote no on an impeachment conviction.
Any decent lawyer would be trying to lock him in a small room with no access to electronic communications. He appears to think only cash or a facsimile thereof is a campaign contribution and doesn’t understand that anything of value provided to help the campaign is a contribution. Let’s not forget he started out saying no contribution, then yeah, there was a payment (or two) by my lawyer to kill stories, but those were personal transactions. I do wonder what other non-campaign contributions came his way during the course of the campaign. Hard to believe that these payments were his only offense of this nature.
I think what the system asks is that you observe the proprieties and don’t rock the boat. If you make a lot of noise and bring attention to yourself, you just about force them to act on these financial things. It’s like being a drug dealer: Keep it quiet, don’t leave a trail of bodies, and you can have a nice long career.
…has already declined to represent him, to avoid the inevitable taint.
…
Agreed - no “smocking” gun. The gun, however, is totally smoking. Christallmighty what a fucking idiot.
You know, in the old days, when the founders were still alive, impeachment did not require a lot.
Some people were removed simply for ranting and raving in an unbecoming fashion.
(Original intent, anyone?)
At least he didn’t lie about having an affair. THAT would be impeachable.
I understand the reticence on the part of the media and politicians to pronounce judgment on Trump’s state of mind. That sort of assessment is the province of psychiatrists. But it’s there for everyone to see, he’s mentally ill, disturbed, possessed of several dangerous and troubling pathologies. It’s an unspoken yet open secret that no one but the the most vociferous partisan is willing to state. If such a person was a family member you’d recommend him getting help, along with being vary careful you segregated your life and his life in all the areas his psychological issues represented a threat to you and your family.
Yet we are 300 million people told we have to sleep under the same roof as the sleepwalking uncle that also carries a gun and thinks there’s a North Vietnamese soldier hiding in the basement.
Or as a Puerto Rican or Cuban James Bond might say to a nubile young woman, who had just appeared in his hotel room “Let me slip into my esmocking and we can go down to the Casino…”
Yes. He composed those two tweets himself. The syntax and misspelling are a goking smun.
Well, lookee here mattinpa, I personally often have this experience, even at my current age and girth (and hair challenged state, except on my back and shoulders…I am a veritable hair farm there), I am minding my own at the local grocery store, or on the subway, and I get waylaid by an adult pornstar or a former Playboy playmate. And after the wham bam thank you m’aam, I have to have my personal attorney, who is no Roy Cohn, nobody took care of this stuff like Roy Cohn, arrange for someone else to pay her $150K.
So this stuff happens, OK? A capito? Capito bene?
Yes, and there’s more.
For example (Madison):
The danger then consists merely in this: the president can displace from office a man whose merits require that he should be continued in it. What will be the motives which the president can feel for such abuse of his power, and the restraints that operate to prevent it? In the first place, he will be impeachable by this house, before the senate, for such an act of maladministration; for I contend that the wanton removal of meritorious officers would subject [the president] to impeachment and removal from his own high trust. But what can be his motives for displacing a worthy man?
What, indeed?
Trump: “…a simple private transaction…”
The Law: “You’re still under arrest for prostitution.”
At least Donald seems to have understood the problem for him ! That’s nice !
Heh heh, so now he admits to the payment after two years of denials.
What a fuckwit.
And he calls it a “private transaction”… (((snicker))).
Trump’s denials remind me of Bart Simpson. “Didn’t do it, can’t pin it on me!!!”
Being a man with a large vocabulary which does not include the term smocking gun, but does include the words smock and gun, I needed to know what a smocking gun in fact is.
Smocking is a decorative tight, stitched down, pleating on a woman’s blouse. A gun of course, is a penis, as attested to by the Marine Corps ditty:
This is my rife,
This is my gun.
My rifle’s for shooting,
My gun is for fun.
I conclude therefore that a smocking gun is in fact a penis wrapped in a woman’s pleated blouse.
To check my conclusion I went to the source of all knowledge of modern terms and learned the following:
A phrase that means you don’t know what the F#$% you are talking about and should just stop tweeting.
(Sample usage)
My smocking gun went off at 3 a.m. this morning when I was supposed to be solving the World’s problems.
Quite correct, my business partner was a former Chicago gang drug dealer. A banker client of his told him to leave the drug business if he wanted to be above the earth at age 30. Told him he would teach him everything he knew about finance. Back before the housing bubble burst doing mortgages was like printing money. My partner said it was actually easier than dealing drugs and 100% legal.
