Trump is neither of those things.
Not as long as Trump is in office.
Your attempts at ratiocination are cute—not successful, but cute just the same—as well has risible and bereft of anything that could be charitably called clever or insightful.

David Brooks - is that you?
You said that Trump is doing exactly the right thing. He has been doing that long list of ACA sabotage all along, but so far he’s only given lip service to bipartisanship. I think you should at least hold-fire on Trump doing the right thing until he actually does it.
You don’t often see taste and Trump in the same sentence, unless it’s a sentence saying he doesn’t have any.

And do we have confirmation on that…by…you know…an ADULT?
“I keep saying I ain’t Jesus, man. I’m the dude from Nickelback…”
You can see him in His Vegas era glory in Blade Runner 2049.
And no I’m not making it up and yes, the movie is worth seeing on the biggest screen possible.
If you haven’t seen “Elvis and Nixon” I’d suggest seeing it. It’s a much-needed escape from this shit-storm called Trump.
I think I just threw up a little in my mouth.
So here’s a thought I want to run by the community:
When your computing device connects to a web server (which is what you do when, for example, browse the comments here at TPM) that server collects and logs certain information about your connection. This info can include your device’s “IP address”, a unique identifier that identifies your connection point to the Internet.
Each IP address is assigned to a specific Internet Service Provider, and thus knowing your IP address tells us something about where in the world you are coming from.
Now, there are ways to “spoof” an IP address, but there also ways to detect such spoofing, and there are even services which are used by security experts to unravel such spoofing. They’re not perfect, but good enough to unravel it enough in most cases to be able to say “this connection originates from country x” , or “this connection is using the Tor anonymity service to hide it’s origin” .
Now I value my anonymity as much as the next person, but as someone who provides IT Services for a living I also understand the need for accountability back to the community.
So how would folks feel about requesting an extension, say to our user profile, indicating the source of our connection to TPM? It does not mean I would have to reveal my full identity, but perhaps we should be willing to say “last connected from California”, or “last connected from Macedonia” or “last connection was from a deliberately hidden source”. I feel such information would tell us a lot about certain opinions being offered on a recurring basis in such forums.
Again, I’m very conscious of the slippery slope argument (i.e. that we give up our privacy one step at a time) but it does appear that the anonymity of the current model leads to a certain ability to manipulate and a concurrent degradation of or social interactions.
Thoughts?
I’m not a fan of internet anonymity and I’ve never used it. So I’d be fine with this and it may actually be necessary in this particular climate where we don’t always know who and what we can trust.
Excellent points. My understanding is the moderators are already aware or at least suspect when IP addresses are hidden. I don’t believe it’s an explicit, ban-worthy violation of the terms of service. A troll—please note I’m naming no names here, heaven forfend—who avoids certain more obvious violations can have a long shelf life. Hope that helps. ![]()
Fake News media are not reporting the fact Paul Ryan and Mitch McConnell are very pleased.
I thought Dems were going to come crawling back.
There lies the problem. No one believes Trump. A promise from him is a joke and they know it.
What Trounce knows about healthcare could fit easily into a hypodermic needle and be shot back into his veins.
He only calls in hopes of getting something he can call a deal, a done deal.
Who in their right mind believes that tweeter boy knows policy or specific medical anything beyond hair transplants, forehead reduction and/or how to do it at home penis enlargement?
So sorry orangish dipshit, but you don’t get to undermine healthcare as a whole behind closed doors or on your toilet, then try to claim that you’ve fixed it all in front of the cameras.
At this point, the fix is to reinstate all that he’s done to hurt the ACA and then go tweet off somewheres.
It isn’t ratiocination, I’m just providing everyone with a reasoned train of thought that doesn’t conform to the same tired political line they hear being blasted out of their TVs or phones by Rachel Maddow.
Rather weird way to preface something you’ve obviously spent some time thinking about.
Yeah, to be clear, that was my reaction to your suggestion that Donnie would be a “bipartisan president”.
Edited to Add: If you’d like to provide me with your IP address, I’d be happy to tell you what it says of you…
I endorse this entirely. Even better if the location info was revealed this way:
eg it could be by state for locations inside the US;
Country for some important countries eg Canada, UK, Ireland, Australia, Russia, China, North Korea; and
then regional for less important areas, e.g. ‘EU’ for Germany, Belgium etc.
After you…
