Discussion: Trump Brags About Limiting Debate To 2 Hours 'So We Can Get The Hell Out Of Here'

Discussion for article #242290

Next time, negotiate down to a cool minute and a half. The nation will thank you.

And the fact-checker says…?

Oh right, TPM couldn’t be bothered to report that.

He recounted: "In about two minutes I renegotiated it down to two hours so we can get the hell out of here. Not bad."

“Captain, the Enterprise is up there. They’re asking if we want to beam up.”

“Let’s get the hell out of here.”

“I went out and said, ‘It’s ridiculous, I could stand up here all night. Nobody wants to watch three and a half or three hours,’” Trump said.

He recounted: “In about two minutes I renegotiated it down to two hours so we can get the hell out of here. Not bad.”

When I hear someone so crass, so boorish, and so nakedly ambitious – and so close to taking control of the levers of power – I’m reminded of that line from Yeats:

“And what rough beast, its hour come round at last,
slouches toward Bethlehem to be born?”

Hey, good for you Trump. You did the job of your campaign manager, when you could have been doing something more productive.

Even if true, taking a 3 hour debate to a 2 hour debate does not signify Presidential material.

His presidency will last just two hours and then he will lock up the White House and go look for Gary Busey?

Boo? I thought they were yelling “Food.”

Trump is a rich slob. Christie’s NJ mobster routine is looking almost chic these days.

So, these bib-dribblers can’t handle a 2 hour debate. Hillary can endure an 11 hour grilling with the opposition but their chops are busted at two hours. Okay, got it.

I’m getting sick of all these people.

That was Christie?

Two hours is more than enough Three could be considered dangerous to mental health.

Um, what? Is he saying because he negotiated to limit the debate to 2 hours he’ll win and make America great again? Or what?

And apparently that makes sense to some people, at least per polls (shaking my head).

In normal speak: Trump had nothing to say.
Or maybe he didn’t want to say anything.

If faced with a major international crisis would he “negotiate” it down to a 20 second sound bite so that he wouldn’t have to work too hard?

Hillary was grilled for 10 hours in her Benghazi testimony. How would Trump have reacted to 10 hours of bullshit questions? Would he have held his temper? Somehow I doubt it.

On the backside more than 3 hours of exposure to these clowns might just cause mental instability.

In fact I’d like to see the GOPer candidates subjected to 10 hours of relentless questioning just to see how they’d hold up under pressure.

This strikes me as that strange narcissist logic that you get to know if you have someone like this in your life. He is so proud of himself because he has power over the Presidential election process and the other candidates. He is also trying to show that Carson is a follower. But what he fails to understand is that no one gives a fuck about this stupid little petty crap that has nothing to do with anyone’s lives.

“So we can get the hell out of here”?

You mean, like, take me away from all this stupid nonsense I have to do to get elected President? Or, who has time to answer questions trying to convince Americans to vote for them? Or, this bullshit is so far beneath me it’s not worth my time?

That statement to me sounds remarkably Palin-esque. Suggests the man would be a terrible President: “International treaties? Boooring! National security? Whatevs. Let’s just hit the high points and then get the hell out of here.”

On the bright side, though, his State of the Union addresses would be over quickly.

Yes. Excellent summation to the jury of potential voters. If this guy was a defense counsel for a guy on trial for murder and all he could tell jurors at final summation in defense of his client was that he “renegotiated” with the judge and got the trial trimmed from three days to two so “we can all get the hell out of here” he’d be sued for malpractice and probably lose his law license.

Of course in the wacky GOP presidential sweepstakes, you talk substance at your own risk. Reminds me of those GE commercials where no one gets the earnest guy with a plan to contribute in truly meaningful ways.

TPM reported it when it happened. Trump is actually correct for once.
