The FCC/Sinclair deal looks like good old-fashioned graft as well. I’d bet a largish sum that money changed hands in that one. If there are any entities out there looking into matters like this it could be one more folder to add to the pile.

The Trump cadre are battening the hatches. Obviously concerned that Breitbart and Fox “News” aren’t slavish enough, Trump needs a truly fake news propaganda outlet to carry his lies when Mueller starts indicting Flynn and others.

This is more about how this shit will get disseminated than anything else…A special loophole created by the FCC by a tRump appointee has made a ruling allowing Sinclair broadcasting this kind of propaganda to be exploited in some of the biggest media markets in the country. That’s the real problem here. This looks a lot like quid pro quo by the new appointee for his job. Its fucking cronyism is what this is.

Thanks for that - I learned a long time ago that the Dow is just a phony piece of Fake News in the truest sense of the term.
I believe most of what we are seeing is the after embers of the economy under Obama and everyone holding on to the notion that there will be massive tax relief from the Republicans along with repeal of the last few restrictions on investment bankers and other giant squids in the American economy. We are setting the table for another 2008 because we seem to have not learned any of the lessons from the last one.
You seem very knowledgeable - any advice on where to put my money?

I suppose we’ve long past reached the point where asking “How would Republicans have responded if Obama had done or said this?” has any kind of relevance (although Bill Maher did recently). We already know the answer, and we knew the answer from day one of the Trump campaign - their heads would have exploded.
No American President has any business setting up his or her own ‘news’ channel (starring their own family member). That Trump supporters actually applaud this (because they see it as fighting back against ‘fake news’) means there are millions of Americans living all over the country who apparently disagree with the most fundamental aspects of their own democracy.
Most of the Trump supporters that I’ve spoken to face-to-face now dismiss any criticisms at all of President Trump as just ‘partisan witch hunts,’ or they dismiss perfectly valid criticisms of the kind that they, themselves, would have made about President Obama because they see President Trump serving some larger purpose (he’s working to MAGA, so he can say whatever dumb thing he wants).
There were, of course, shadows of all of these things in the Bush Administration years. But what is new is the intensity, the ubiquity and the unapologetic braggadocio. They really don’t like the poem on the Statute of Liberty, which in any year before these last two would have been an unthinkable thing to say out loud in front of a camera, let alone a roomful of cameras. But no American tradition of civility or discourse or the very nature of the country itself (a country founded by immigrants) is going to stand in their way of getting angry about the meaning of a great American poem - to somehow make America great again. They claim to be conservatives, but apparently have no interest in conserving American traditions, standards of governance or just basic human kindness towards strangers.
That Trump supporters want to indiscriminately bulldoze EVERY norm is dangerous, and is something new-ish, and there doesn’t seem to be any mechanism in the system for dealing with such a logically unlikely outcome. In all of their deliberation and discourse about the nature of democracy, governance, checks and balances and so on, did the founders ever envision as a possible outcome that millions of Americans would actively want to destroy the norms and traditions of their own country? I don’t know. But I see every day in the real world that people’s personal lives in America are getting worse and worse and that nothing the President is currently saying or doing will ever help them in any way. And they don’t realize that he’s not helping them, and I don’t think they ever will. And so they will continue to actively support this President in his quest to undo decades of civil rights and centuries of legal democracy and civic discourse.
And I really don’t know what to do about it.
