Discussion: Trump Blows Up Latest Bipartisan Efforts To End Shutdown

The super-rich can do pretty shitty stuff. For example, the Saudi elites who have push since 2015 for bombing Yemen. Closer to home, we like our richest to have the public good in mind, not the public bad. Certainly, Gates and Buffett have made doing good a priority, and tried to get other rich people to sign their Giving Pledge to put a focus on philanthropy. Nevertheless, there is a huge risk that some rich might try to skew outcomes in the economy in their favor, going so far as to cynically induce recession to lower asset prices. I worry that a couple decades from now this is the interpretation of what Trump and those behind him were up to all along.

Theyā€™re still getting paid, though. But I get your point.

Which is great!

Then on January 20, 2021, President Pelosi can sign the emergency orders on health and safety to confiscate all assault weapons and provide healthcare coverage to all.

Now everyone understands how Trump went bankrupt SIX times. How he failed at running a casino.

I believe that nothing will satisfy him. That IS the plan. So, the Republicans need to vote with theDems. Congress is our only hope.

I caught what I could stomach of his blathering from a Cabinet room. He looks jaundiced he has so much QT on his fat ugly face. He started talking about the next caravan getting ready to invade and I had to turn him off. He praised Joe Manchin for doing what he had to do to ā€œdefend his peopleā€ who live nowhere near any border. Speaking of, how can we get rid of Manchin?

No doubt. Heā€™s a wounded animal now. Going to lash out in all directions.

But I still believe heā€™s close to folding. This is a hail mary pass. After this itā€™s goodnight Irene. Heā€™ll have no choice but to fold.

Oh and blame it on the courts. Of course blame it on the courts.

The solution is in plain sight, but takes the courage of a few responsible GOP Senators. The solution is to pass a bill funding the government without the dumbass wall. The president vetoes the bill, and Congress overrides the veto. Then have a discussion on border security and immigration reform. Cannot allow Trump the menace to use government shutdown as a future tactic to get what he wants. What he is demanding is not compromise, itā€™s capitulation.

Why isnā€™t stealing peopleā€™s labor a ā€œhigh crime?ā€

Josh said something like this last night. Speaker Pelosi denied him the SOTU while the government is shut down and his rage needed to be directed somewhere else.

Except I would bet that she does it earlier than 1/20/21. LOL.

The biggest problem with Trumpā€™s dealmaking skillz isnā€™t just that he typically left negotiations to others, but that real estate deals are typically two-party and you donā€™t need to woo different stakeholders. Back in the 80ā€™s when Trump was overpaying for real estate, planes, and casinos with borrowed money he couldnā€™t possibly afford to pay back, he didnā€™t need to get a bad loan from EVERY bank. He only needed to find ONE sucker bank to give him his bad loan, along with a seller who was happy to fleece him.

And that was PEAK Trump, before the bankruptcies, bogus reality show, and dementia. Itā€™s the same with Kushner: They think finding one person willing to negotiate is enough, because thatā€™s how real estate deals work. Just get Schumer or another Democrat to make a deal and all this ends.
