Ninety-nine out of a hundred things Trump says are utterly ridiculous and worthy of contemptuous laughter. But the thing is, they all do this: They state some absurd premise like “my eight accusers are all Deep State plants who want to stop my America-saving mission” and then start stacking more and more absurd conclusions on top of that like it was an inarguably self-evident truth. And that’s how you attack objective reality to establish authoritarianism, folks. You make lying acceptable.

Of course Trump blames Obama . . . nothing is ever Trump’s fault. But note that he now has to at least acknowledge that the hacking happened, and that it was Russia. I suppose that is some progress. Now, if we can just get him to admit that it was aimed against Hillary and benefited his own campaign, that would really be something.
This is so absurd. The Russians have attacked our democracy and Giuliani says the investigation should end because no Americans have been named as complicit? And yet, neither the Trump administration nor the GOP have done anything to confront the attackers or to repel their advances. They have been complicit all along. Maybe it would an important journalistic feat to compile a list of all the actions during the Trump presidency that have weakened our democracy. That we have to put up with a president who is a Russian agent for this long just seems mind boggling.

Hear ya, we had a long hot and humid stretch and it was very tiresome. I wasn’t myself for a day or two even when it was done, I had to work so hard to stay hydrated and all. Phew! Hang in there.
The problem is that Mr. Trump has largely succeeded in making “lying acceptable” to his base, GOP pols (who know he is lying but will do nothing to stop him) and the majority of conservative media. If that is the cornerstone to authoritarianism then we all already at least 35% there!
