Discussion: Trump Bags First Mega Donation from Disgraced Ex-Con Real Estate Mogul

Discussion for article #239720

Talk about burrying the lede, one of the most verbose and most poorly written articles I slogged through here on TPM.

Lots of commentary and background in about 400 parragraphs before we get to read just who the donor is and why the donor is an ex-con.

Political news writers might want to re-take a journalism 101 course.

Vendetta money —

…and for this we have to thank the SupremeCorporation K-RATS’ CU decision.

Heckuva job, guys

Who’s next? Robert Durst?

This is the fourth paragraph which should have been closer to the top. We wannabe editors here probably know how to compose more concisely but aren’t given the chance. Anyway, lots of deadwood between important graphs from a reporter who tends to run on.

One of the larger donations that the super PAC has received so far has come from Charles and Seryl Kushner, the in-laws to Trump’s daughter Ivanka and the parents of her husband, New York Observer owner Jared Kushner. The Kushners gave $100,000 to the Make America Great Again super PAC in July.On Sunday, they took that support one step further by hosting Trump for a meet-and-greet on the candidate’s behalf at their seaside home on the New Jersey shore.

So much for Trump not being beholden to his donors…
Sheesh!

Trump…come on! Just when I thought you had a chance to get the Republican nomination…

He’s probably the only candidate Hillary can beat in the general.

If Trump doesn’t watch out, he will blow his lead.

Not that his moron followers care.

Anything that makes Trump less likely to be nominated is bad for Hillary.

Remember…a vote for Trump is a vote for Hillary. You know, the woman he so cared about going to his wedding that he put up money to make her attend?

You gotta love this guy! He says other candidates can be bought with money…then he proceeds to try to purchase the presidency of the US with his money!!! And his moron followers eat it up!

And lots of inside-NJ-political information that doesn’t see the light of day if not for Brian Murphy.
I tend to cut slack on form/style-- when I’m getting background I wouldn’t see elsewhere.

***Must need to fill up space. Agreed.

Even after DT is out this race, he will get tons of media coverage and he will exaggerate and lie about the reasons he couldn’t win, no matter the facts*** He will be an even bigger blowhard.

The pairing of Trump and Kushner works that ā€˜Honor Among Thieves’ meme overtime! Nepotism, greed, cronyism, paybacks all in the family! Jeeeeeez’…just when you thought The Donald’s cesspool campaign couldn’t be more rancid.

Clearly the billionaires are spending a lot of money on political campaigns most of which is spent on Foxy News and TV stations that can produce and deliver the product for pennies. Is there a way for political donations to be better for the economy??

Political campaigns themselves have become an industry. There are the advisers on each aspect of the campaign including the candidate’s appearance, there are trackers following the opponent, there are the pollsters hired to take the pulse of voters whenever their candidate hiccups or says the wrong word, there are the strategists who move between parties depending on the paycheck, and there’s the afterglow of a losing campaign in the form of books, speeches, TV punditry, etc. Running for office today is nothing but a moneymaking proposition for too many grifters.

Interesting how the two biggest bullies, Trump and Christie and their campaigns and donors are linked.

My thoughts. This would be a nice example of burying the lede in some J-101 course.

One could read ā€œThe AP Guide to News Writingā€ cover to cover and skip J-101.

Maybe I’ll send a copy to TPM

What a stupid, stupid, stupid man. I mean doesn’t wearing a backward wig mean anything?

took me a minute - but this photo of Trump reminded me of somebody …

One more tidbit about Kushner: there was some speculation that the reason Christie & Co shut down the Fort Lee lanes to the GWB had to do with this rivalry. Kushner is building a large condo development right across the street from the ramp entrance. One of the main features of the development was close access to the bridge. The ā€œtraffic studyā€ took place during the same time period that Kushner was awaiting funding to complete the project, and was designed to deter banks from supporting the project.

It was just a theory, I don’t know if there was any truth to it.

Lout, boor, vulgarian – one exhausts the vocabulary.
He’s the loudmouth in every blue collar or ā€œsportsā€ bar: Knows everything. Everyone thinks he’s ā€œsmartā€.
