Discussion: Trump Backs Off: 'Not Looking' To Declare National Emergency 'So Fast'

they’re all floaters in one sense or another.

Donnie goes for a diaper change, basically.
BTW, what ever happened to “Only I can fix it!” ?

Maybe we are watching a rewinding of the school-yard bully scenario in A Christmas Story. Once the bully is beaten by Ralphie, he is “free” to say he could have continued fighting but chose not to. In a similar way Trump, having his nose bloodied by A GIRL, is now “free” to say things like, "I could declare an emergency but I won’t, " or maybe even, “I can keep the government shut down forever, but I won’t.” We are dealing with a school-yard bully, aren’t we?

O I think he’s on the verge of caving. “Peaches” really says that to me.

Well, look on the bright side! If the courts allowed it to pass, then in 2 years we could have a Democratic President who could just declare that climate change is a National Emergency. Reverse the current EPA rulings, a national carbon tax, shift a big portion of the defense budget over to climate change mitigation. It would hold up in court because it actually is an emergency with plenty of hard data to back it up. Unlike Trump’s stupid border crisis fantasies.

Of course this is one reason why Trump is getting major push-back on the idea. It isn’t about mandating trans bathrooms, but serious things that could get done with the progressive agenda under cover of National Emergency. And nobody but Trump thinks he has a great shot at getting re-elected in 2020.

Yup, I agree and Cornyn just pushed back. All Trump had to do was sign the bill in Dec. and he’d be talking about border security from a position of strength. He is too stupid and suggestible, and vain to see it that way.

My guess is that tRump saw that Mueller wasn’t going to release anything on Friday, so he put the Emergency card into his XXL hip pocket, to use another day when he’ll really need to distract us

I think so. Abbott must understand that he is in a delicate position. Cornyn even more so since he’s up for re-election in 2020.

Taking of private property is so unpopular that I know that’s why Abbott has stayed out of all of this. Cornyn is taking the tack of standing up for the hurricane victims. Whatever. It’s interesting to watch Cornyn make a 180 on this damn wall and he’s the Senate whip, so I know he has to have talked to Mitch.

I love Adam Schiff. We have some smart folks on our side.

This struck me too. He does deals, he does negotiations, he does government, he does Brexit, he does walls, he probably won’t do national emergency. A moron for all seasons.

In case of a real emergency: everybody to get from street.

My borrowed plan is more extensive than Trumpp’s

What "Peaches says to me is that Trump has entered the Dances With Wolves post commander’s reality realm.

He’s beginning to scare me. He’s going to need a big distraction before long and that could be seriously insane.

O shit - that is a perfect analogy.

I’m waiting to hear from rMoney who must be hearing from his constituents because Utah has so many national parks that are closed down (and the state budget is keeping some open). He was supposed to be the great hope for the senate and would take on Fatso. So far, he’s Hatch, but younger.

If he doesn’t want to be just another enabling repug he better start speaking out against trump. So far nothing with teeth.

How long until he claims that he never threatened to declare a national emergency? I’m guessing within a week.
