ā€œSurgingā€ is a gerund that never comes to my mind when I condider John Kasich. Boring on the other handā€¦,

Both right wingers so it hardly matters.

Making more popcorn now.

Kasich Surges In New Hampshire, Trailing Trump By Just 7 Points

Thus highlighting the dichotomy that is NH.

We are part Northeast in being more liberal (southern part along Mass border) and part conservative, gun loving ā€œlive free or dieā€ types (less populous parts of the state).

Kasich could benefit from the independents that have Clinton fatigue and consider Bernie too liberal, thus they pull a Repub primary ballot on the 9th of Februaryā€¦

Boring in this GOP primary year is anyone who isnā€™t trying to egg on rightwing anger and fantasies. Which may make him attractive to more sober and serious Republican minds, assuming there are more of them than we think.

Kasich is the lesser of 10 GOP evilsā€¦not good for America, but better than Trumpā€™s hellish vision for us all. Still, the notion of having a former FOX talking head as POTUS is a shivering thought. FSM help us all if any GOPer gets into the White House again.

Kasich is likely the last of the ā€œnot-Trumpsā€ to get hot. I think heā€™ll finish 2nd or even (in a narrow plurality) first in NH. Given heā€™s closest thing left to the ā€˜old guard GOPā€™ running, thereā€™s a good chance voters and narratives will (reluctantly) coalesce around him going into SC. Heā€™s not a bad buy-low bet right now on the bettors market, if youā€™re into such thingsā€¦

Kasich knows what heā€™s doing. He has skills in both DC and Ohio and he has a good track record in both places. Just no sure he has the psychotic piece worked out. He can be a hothead.

Yes, theyā€™re both wingnuts, but it does matter. Out of the whole Republican presidential field, Kasich appears to be the only one actually interested in governing, as opposed to rhetorical bomb-throwing. As an example, Kasich pushed against his own party to get Medicare expansion in Ohio.

So, Kasich wouldnā€™t be good president, but at least heā€™d be a sane president - which is more than you can say for any of the other GOP candidates.

Assuming Kasich is actually getting some traction, and that this poll isnā€™t simply a statistical outlier, itā€™s a sign that at least some Republicans in NH are more interested in electing a sane president than they are in attacking progressives - which is unexpected.

ARGā€™s performance is far from stellar. Having said that, whatā€™s interesting is their alternative to the two craziests is apparently not Rubio, not Christie, and of course not Jeb.

And Kasich is someone who could change the scenario for sure in a general

ARG has one of the worst records among pollsters. Always an outlier.

Kasich is a stealth kookā€¦heā€™ll let the Teanuts run wild even as he campaigns as the ā€œsaneā€ choice.

Hey quit stealing Trumps lines!

least evil, Yes.

this may actually mean he is the most dangerous, as he may be electable. His home state is a good prize he may be able to capture in the General, making the EV math less daunting for the GOP.

So far Trump has been able to dispatch his rivals as they get close, Cruz being the best at maintaining his gains (so far) as he is perceived as a ā€œTrump without the baggageā€. It will be interesting to see if Kasich can navigate this.

Jeb! who?!?

Well thatā€™s a big change so the poll may be an outlier. Hope so. It would be a shame if the GOP came to itā€™s senses and made a serious run at the White House.
