Discussion: Trump AG Pick Sent Unsolicited Memo To DOJ In June Criticizing Russia Probe

So basically, he sent in the relevant part of his resume to get trump’s attention

There is zero chance Trump picks anyone who hasn’t already come out against the Russia probe. Just like he wasn’t picking anyone for SCOTUS who would say the president can’t pardon himself.

So when did Barr send it, and who over at DoJ alerted Trump to it’s existence?

The 20-page memo focused specifically on the obstruction of justice portion of [the SCO’s] investigation. […] Barr offered his insight as a “former official” whose “views may be useful”

“Offered his insight” even though he had no idea what the evidence was.

Barr’s opinions on the Russia probe are of particular significance given the authority he’ll have over the investigation if confirmed.

Actually it’s worse than that.

Imagine the DOJ being ruled by an Attorney General who works to delegitimize an investigation even though he doesn’t know the first thing about it.

To be fair, most people aren’t.

And most of the exceptions I know of are young children.

And yet it’s already a given that many Democrats will give him the nod.

This is honestly just sort of weird to me. Did Barr have nothing better to do in his spare time than send angry ranty old-man-yells-at-cloud letters to the Department of Justice?

Bless his heart. He must not have been able to get a seat at the table on FOX to audition so he sent a letter…Donnie always hires the BEST people with the most impeccable resumes.

Best case, 1) his nomination gets held up over this, 2)Whitaker’s time expires, and 3) the DOJ succession rules kick in, making Rosenstein Acting AG.

And maybe the fury over the Syria withdrawal will help with no. 1.

This memo appears to be focused on the investigation of the Comey firing which in my mind is the weakest case Mueller is pursuing. From the WSJ article, it does not appear that Barr objects to the Russian interference part of the investigation.

But for me the bigger question is why the F does Barr want this job so badly? He’ has already been AG so it’s not as if he wants that to be his final achievement. And being this President’s AG has to be the worst possible job for someone of Barr’s standing. Were I senator, this is what I would want to know.

Bingo.

Barr appears to have been gunning for the job for at least a year.

Those are a couple of very good questions…

Barr is also ignoring the fact that tRump thought firing Comey would stop the FBI’s participation in the Russia investigation.

No one is contesting a president’s prerogative to replace the head of the FBI, what is being contested is the reason for it.
