Discussion: Trump Administration Releases Contract Notices For Border Wall

Bwahahaha, as if the contracts havenā€™t already been doled out to Trump businesses and loyalists.

30-foot sample walls?

I want to see the Maya Lin model. When this error in history is over, that can become our monument to it.

How much longer are the Republicans going to allow the country and the world to be spun around this guyā€™s obvious mental illness? Will they start to revolt once they have the SCOTUS vacancy sewed up, or is there some other breaking point? For Godā€™s sake, they have Pence waiting in the wings - he will help them pass every piece of fantasy poor people hating racist legislative drivel they can dream of. Are they unable to move because as lovers of authoritarianism they cannot rebel against the authoritarian?

Other than some small amounts allocated under current law to repair damaged sections of existing border structures I do not think there is any legal authorization to spend a single cent on any Trump Wall. Any bids that are let to construct new sections of any border wall need congressional authorization BEFORE any money is spent.

Since the contractors will never be paid, Iā€™m not seeing a problem.

Iā€™m holding out for the 35 foot ladder contracts.

On a related note I read recently that the Trump people were already contacting owners via semi-threatening letters before the inauguration day offering to buy land for the wall. Such letters definitely did not make any mention of owner rights in any eminent domain taking. If accurate, these actions are clearly inappropriate of not outright illegal. I have not seen any more reports as to how the administration is proceeding with owners. Given my suspicions about the Trump folks, I think the issue needs some investigative reporting.

Iā€™d like to submit a bid that calls for putting up a force field.

As usual in this maladministration, they did Nazi the problems with the project. Hereā€™s the tip of the Speer:

What is the real likelihood at this point that Congress will just say no, it is not necessary, we cannot afford budget busting vanity projects right now, and we are just not going to do it?

I guess they may want to be careful how they go about defying the president, but they are masters of smoke and mirrors, no?

I think Canada should build a wall to keep out the Conservative crazies from the US, and they should make Trump pay for it.

Iā€™m stuck between spending $21B keeping satellites and ocean science on track or getting behind this Wall initiative. Keep in mind that the 4th grade were 3 of the hardest years of my life.

I ainā€™t paying for no fucking wall! And you canā€™t make me either. So there, motherfucker. And since Mexico ainā€™t paying either, ITS ALL BULLSHIT.

He wants a fucking wall to look good from the north. What kind of idiot says that? Our idiot.

Now thatā€™s a fucking wall!..and it only took over 2,000 years to build and rebuild, while adding on in stages over many many dynastiesā€¦(770 BCE and 1633 AD.)

Once you start that shit, I guess thereā€™s no turning back.
Not sure it kept the opium out either.
Trump has China-envy, its like penis-envy only with a fucking wall.

Silly rabbit. Its not Trumpā€™s money heā€™s risking this time. Its ours. Havenā€™t you heard? He wants Americans to pay for this bullshit.

Yes, yes, yes, you stupid botā€¦Iā€™ll quit posting too many thoughts in a row. Asswipe messaging.

Congress has to give him the money. There is so much preparation that has to take place before one piece of wall is put up where no wall was before.

There are going to be lawsuits by landowners. They talked to one woman down there whose family homestead will be cut in half by the wall and sheā€™s just sick. She isnā€™t the only one.

I cannot imagine anything much getting built before a whole fucking lot of shit is settled.

:joy: You absolutely crack my shit up!

5 bn would (in round numbers) pay for ACA-standard health insurance for a half-million people.

The Trump Doctrine: Better to spend your tax dollars taking benefits away from the undeserving and blow it on keeping out the ā€œundesirablesā€ than to waste it on keeping your constituents healthy and your neighboring countries at peace.

For no other benefit than that it makes the folks who voted for him feel better?

Itā€™s quite something, but every thing they do seems calculated to make life more difficult for the rest of us.
