In the past, I would have expected the GOP to be too embarrassed to issue such a blatant exception for a fellow Republican, but not any more. Florida’s win here means a Republican state argued against a Republican policy. Well, we all knew we were past the Alice through the Looking Glass stage of governing.
Seems fair. Florida, which is headed by a Trump GOP flunky, doesn’t have ugly and environmentally damaging offshore oil drilling shoved down its throat. “Blue” states are screwed.

Yep. Just for example, Deepwater Horizon was off the coast of Louisiana when it blew. Think that mattered to the folks in Pensacola when the oil showed up on their beaches?
Does that mean that when Scott loses the election the oil rigs will go up?

How does this not leave the entire plan vulnerable to a lawsuit on disparate treatment? A statement that Florida’s coasts are uniquely important to their economies seems indefensible legally. Compared to California? Maine? New Jersey? What fools these Trump people be. He may have claimed he would have only the best people, but it turns out only morons will work for him.
That’s my take. He just admitted that offshore drilling is potentially devastating to tourism.

Ummm…is it just me or does this seem like a good reason for all the other states on the East and West coasts to sue the federal government for rank politicization of the process? tRump and Zinke opened the door to how ridiculous this decision is for the federal government to impose their will on the states in this way (particularly without their input), and how arbitrary the process was in deciding how it should go forward. I’m guessing none of these coastal states want any part of this. Even if he exempts CA, there is already so much this administration has done to ignore the needs of that state both from so many natural disasters as well as from policies that affect the tax base and probably healthcare.
I have questions as to an environmental impact study and whether they even bothered to do any due diligence in this matter or just woke up one morning and said, “I think we’ll try this”. These people don’t believe in science or climate change, so I doubt they bothered to check with anyone about the impact this would have. They certainly didn’t when they added oil drilling in ANWAR to the tax cut for billionaires bill they passed.

I don’t know, but there might be an island somewhere in it that would be hard to get to if there was a hurricane, because islands are surrounded by water. I learned that from our president!
One look at the picture of those two together and I ruined another keyboard. Why can’t some Americans figure out what happens when corporate criminals like these promote themselves to public office?
