This administration seems to be bound and determined to do the most harm to the most people it possibly can. In many cases, the motivation seems to be sheer spite.
This is one of those cases. Back in the seventies oil companies loved to brag about all the things they were doing for the environment - of course, all of it was mandated by law, but, hey, why mention that. It made for great ad campaigns.
This is penny wise and pound foolish on the public-relations front.
Methane’s greenhouse effect is about 23 times that of carbon dioxide. And there’s the fact that global warming is already moving faster than we are. I’m trying to remember the economic phenomenon associated with this kind of behavior, but basically imagine some guys in a lifeboat with food and water. They have no idea if they are going to be rescued or not. But they assume rescue is imminent so they use up the resources quickly instead of rationing to extend their resources as long as possible, or at least to the point of bearable discomfort. Usually it takes several days before the rationing idea takes hold, at which point they may have burned through most of their resources. At that point, however, pain management is out of the question. By the same token, the cost of adjusting to a system where we are introducing zero old carbon has risen over recent decades as we go further along in venusiforming the atmosphere and acidifying the oceans. Just think of this policy as the first hour in the lifeboat and there’s even a case of beer! Good times.
With Trump it is most assuredly spite in his endless drive to undo all things Obama. With the rest of the GOP and its beneficiaries in the corporate world it is their endless drive to realize short term profit without any concern about long term effects.
Remember global warming is a “Chinese hoax”. I know because the man God chose to be POTUS said so. Plus God told Noah (of the Ark fame) that he would never destroy the Earth again.
Sleep well my friends - we and the Earth are in good hands.
These rollbacks better be at the top of the list to reverse by the Democrat elected president in 2020. Hell, if we take the Senate, THEY can do something. Trump was afraid to go to Mississippi because of the hurricane. They’ll miss his roll of paper towels.
It precedes that. It’s the GOP being contrarians. Anything that tree hugging, bed wetting, job killing leftists believe must be reversed.
Someone help me out here as I don’t know - to rollback a rule, doesn’t the EPA have to show that there is scientific evidence that the rule is causing more harm than good and that removing the rule wouldn’t violate their charge to protect the environment? So just because they want to rescind the rule, doesn’t mean they can. Now - they may not enforce it, but I don’t think they can just say, “Not doing that now.” Anyone know how this works??
Weaponized Nihilism.
Hey, the Dotard’s only doing this because he has to fart. The child can only hold it in so long, ya know.
Easier to tear down than it is to build.
Hopefully people will see now that it DOES matter who sits in office.
I really can’t wait until we have a Democratic president back in office.
As devastating hurricanes, made more frequent and severe by climate change, enjoy their 2018 season of destruction and death.
Well, can they just say “costs too much, sorry!”? There’s got to be some process, though. Or an EO.
Pollution, encouraging global warming, and harm to the environment and people are official government policy of the Trump GOP regime.
Let that sink in.
The sad thing is, with regulations, safety inspection, and plant maintenence, they still make buckets of money.
The tragedy is there is a global catastrophe that we see coming and we are doing nothing to stop it.
Be fair mister, the GOP is responsible for this, they’d pull this under president romney or pence. this is their goal.
don’t forget migrants and displaced people crossing borders as resources get more scarce - but let’s just hate all furriners without doing anything that might - ya know - give them a reason to stay in their country of origin
There would be a lawsuit at the very least compelling them to justify the rule change. Enforcement priority is always up to the executive branch, but if the courts say “You can’t scrap this,” (h/t MC Hammer), you can’t scrap it. But I’m not sure.
Ok, Mr. Mueller, time’s up,
Please start dropping indictments while there’s still a chance of unraveling the Dotard damage.
