Discussion: Trump Admin Suspends Security Assistance To Pakistani Military

And it is a nuclear state. This ought to be just great!

So we withhold weapons that they would use to do something they dont really want to do anyway?

Pakistan can always make up the shortfall selling its nuclear technology. That is, if anyone was interested in buying such a thing.

Way to go Trump, you’ve get put a target on 2.5M Pakistan’s Christians. I wonder if his Evangelical base will say anything?

So, make a big statement about withholding security assistance - but, neither State nor Defense has worked out any of the details, or probably even the broad parameters. Is this another one of those “We’ll let you know in a day or two or week or two thingies?”

[/quote]Rhetorical question?

You forgot about the greatest mind.

I’m starting to lose track of how many simultaneous politico-military international clusterfucks this Prezident is launching now.

  • He’s axing security assistance to Pakistan, thereby compromising pretty much our only current leverage (such as it is) with them. Good thing there’s no way they could possibly move closer to, say, China as a result, right?

  • Picking a Twitter fight with North Korea in terms so transparently Freudian that, with anyone else, you’d suspect it was part of some elaborate, if unfunny, prank.

  • Threatening to pull funding from the Palestinian Authority in a way that thoroughly alarms the Israeli military (who depend on having an at least semi-functional PA for security cooperation)

  • And now his Ambassador to the United Nations is trying to gin up support for some kind of finger-waggling at the Iranians. Gee, good thing she didn’t just recently piss off the entire Security Council including all of our closest allies, right? No way that could ever come back to bite us, so soon.

What am I missing? I guess he hasn’t threatened to invade Venezuela this week. Yet. Several days more to go.

Trump’s DEEP STATE horizon.

Do you feel safer now, America?

Better hope that there is no confrontation between Pakistan and India, because the US now has nearly no leverage over Pakistan to try to de-escalate the situation before the nukes fly.

brown Christians don’t count silly.

You forgot him placing huge tariffs on Mexico to pay for “The Wall”.

an UNSTABLE Nuclear State at that.

Just think if the ISI (the Pakistani Secret Service) decided to fully support the Taliban against us (they created the Taliban in the 90’s and SAVED the Taliban in 2002 during the American invasion, flying thousands of them to safety in northern Pakistan, including Bin Laden and his Al-Qaeda leaders) and to preemptively strike at India with Nuclear Weapons?

This is probably the only topic on which I’ve ever agreed with Trump.
Pakistan has long been a pain in our ass - to the point where, as I’ve recounted here before, it was candidate Obama’s statement about going in there after OBL/AQ if they refused to act that made me sit up and take serious notice of his candidacy.

If our money is the only thing preventing them from doing just that, then the sooner we get rid of this “ally” the better.
Extortion sucks.

Yeah, until they provide one of their nukes to some Al-Qaeda or ISIS nut-jobs for a repeat of 9/11. At that point, a $255 million will seem like a bargain!
