Discussion: Trump Admin May Initially Review EPA's Scientific Work Before It's Made Public

Like we’re supposed to believe he can read any word beyond 2 syllables.

Yeah, if it doesn’t have a poo-say he can’t really grab it now can he?

“Review” is “censorship” with lipstick on it.

Don’t worry folks, HairFuror will be arduously cross-checking 21st century science / reality against the Old Testament Bible.

What could go wrong with that?

No big deal. One of our eminently qualified cabinet members will look over the research, redact anything that looks overly science-y, and then allow the remainder to be published.

Can all of this be FOIA’d?

Why delay? Let’s get the official EPA voice talking now

Lead - it does a body good.
Arsenic - a tasty additive to any salad.
Hazardous Waste Sites - perfect for low income housing according to Dr Ben Carson.

Cheap lipstick.

They’ll cross reference with the Bible and anything not in there (except, of course, the bit about Jesus riding dinosaurs, that’s okay) will be deemed "unscientific ".

Gotta make sure the EPA doesn’t show facts and data that conflict with your lies?

Yes, except for personal notes and possibly some types of preliminary raw data. It’s taxpayer funded research. You own it.

Edit
It’s not classified; now if the Trumpists figure out a way to classify this stuff,…well.

George C. Deutsch, 24, the young presidential appointee at NASA who told public affairs workers to limit reporters’ access to a top climate scientist and told a Web designer to add the word “theory” at every mention of the Big Bang, resigned yesterday, agency officials said.

Shrubya attempted to edit science and silence scientists. It didn’t go very well. Moreover, it made scientists defiant of government interference.

I expect this attempt, too, will fail. And that the official Repository of US Government Science in Canada is going to be doing land office business in the coming years. That will make for some fascinating Before and After reading.

Political appointees reviewing the work of scientists. Not exactly peer review.

You mean the “science” we’ll soon be feeding him through our thousands of faux governmental Twitter accounts?

140 character limit, please.

Starting to round up attendee’s once they set a date.

This will not sit well with any scientist in the government…as a scientist I can guarantee that scientists will fight this. Publication is the lifeblood of science, both for your career and because the principle of openly sharing information to progress understanding is baked into the process. We just cannot publish stuff that isn’t true, or that is massaged to remove certain facts…no one will want to put their name to scientific propaganda. And, a gag order won’t work either, scientists outside the EPA will be vocal about it, and the ones inside the EPA will let others know what’s really going on.

This is also the first step…the Republicans have to shut up the scientists in order to push a lot of their policies forward. Despite their best efforts, most people still trust scientists to be honest about what they are studying. It’s playing with fire to try to change scientific results, both for the politics and because of the danger of what happens when you ignore science.

It DOES affect national security…
