Would Dr. King approve that as well?
It’s not a good idea to starve people. But the disciples of Ayn Rand don’t care.
The [federal government] is proposing a rule that would restrict the ability of states to […]
Of course it is.
And I’m sure every Republican will stand opposed to this naked power grab.
So if the Perdue cuts to SNAP get through some how then the $15 billion will be cut from the subsides that farmers get, right?
You can give millions in tax breaks to millionaires that obviously don’t need the money, but you make it more difficult for people that need food to acquire it. Seems like you don’t want low income people here just like migrants trying to come for a better life.
You creeps are the most disgusting of America.
Thinking of this new, Rumpublican judiciary, it’ll be interesting which regulations they will sue to overturn based on exceeding their statutory authority, versus which ones they blaze forward doing exactly that. The only consistency will be whose side they’re on and it has yet to me my side or yours.
Today on Fox and Friends, Kellyanne Conway commented on available resources for the poor during Christmas:
Are there no prisons? And the union work houses - are they still in operation?
Republicans like to pretend that this will only impact urban (i.e. BLACKITY BLACK) folks, but this is going to impact a lot of Trump voters. Here’s a nice map of snap participation by county. Clicking off both rural and small town buttons is illuminating.
Starving the poors into submission is a longstanding tradition. Primarily because it works.
Merry friggin Christmas
What a bitch she is.
Evidently it is a crime to be poor. Quite honestly, civilization is on its last legs.
So many people to fuck over to help the rich that have more than they can use now, so little time…especially Donald it seems.
Oh, but they do care, who else would they eat?
This purportedly saves $15b over 10 yrs. while their big tax giveaway adds 100 times as much to the debt in that time.
Money in the hands of working people all gets spent and supports local businesses, SNAP especially supports food producers (which is why it’s an Ag Dept. program in the first place).
Money in the hands of the already-rich gets hoarded in hedge funds, non-productive speculative investments that destabilise markets, funding M & A’s that usually result in big job cuts, or at best, gov’t bonds, which are at least useful to the public.
But think about that: the gov’t borrows money to give away to the rich, who lend it back to the gov’t at interest. The gov’t is paying to borrow money it should be simply taking, then has to pay it back. Is that fucking twisted or what?
On a related issue, everyone should get familiar with USDA “Checkoff” programs. The short explanation is, these are programs that spend billions of tax dollars promoting the very foods that are making us sick: Beef, pork, poultry, dairy, and essentially all forms of animal protein. The US diet is horrible and it makes people obese and very sick. The resulting demand for health care services is what’s driving up our unsustainable national health care costs. These are the sorts of hidden forces that are really destroying any chance at America having manageable health care services. If we eat mainly plant-based diets, get healthy, lose weight, the demand for health care will plummet and, therefore, the cost. Checkoff programs are the proverbial “sell the disease, then sell the cure”. Until they are eliminated, we’ll never have affordable health care (not insurance, care).
`Oh, Man. look here. Look, look, down here.’ exclaimed the Ghost.
They were a boy and a girl. Yellow, meagre, ragged, scowling, wolfish; but prostrate, too, in their humility. Where graceful youth should have filled their features out, and touched them with its freshest tints, a stale and shrivelled hand, like that of age, had pinched, and twisted them, and pulled them into shreds. Where angels might have sat enthroned, devils lurked, and glared out menacing. No change, no degradation, no perversion of humanity, in any grade, through all the mysteries of wonderful creation, has monsters half so horrible and dread.
Scrooge started back, appalled. Having them shown to him in this way, he tried to say they were fine children, but the words choked themselves, rather than be parties to a lie of such enormous magnitude.
`Spirit. are they yours.’ Scrooge could say no more.
They are Man's,' said the Spirit, looking down upon them.
And they cling to me, appealing from their fathers. This boy is Ignorance. This girl is Want. Beware them both, and all of their degree, but most of all beware this boy, for on his brow I see that written which is Doom, unless the writing be erased. Deny it.’ cried the Spirit, stretching out its hand towards the city. `Slander those who tell it ye. Admit it for your factious purposes, and make it worse. And abide the end.’
`Have they no refuge or resource.’ cried Scrooge.
Are there no prisons.' said the Spirit, turning on him for the last time with his own words.
Are there no workhouses.’ The bell struck twelve.

I’m sure starving his own red state voters will pay off in the long run!
That Trump, he’s a genius!
I sold at a farmer’s market in the Pacific Northwest for years. People using SNAP at our market were matched up to $20 on their purchases once a month. In the Seattle markets it was huge makeup of a lot of vendor’s sales. So, it was a big benefit for lots of small, local farmers that work incredibly hard for not much money and provided fresh, local food to shoppers.
