Trump’s base thinks very little about policy and what thinking it does mostly isn’t rational, it’s viscerally emotional. So he’s in sync with them there. I hope by now there’s a lingering sense in the rest of the electorate that Aunt Mary won’t have health insurance at all if we let the ACA go, and the GOP is rabidly trying to do that. We could be back to square one, with premiums sailing up whenever, pre-existing conditions, rescission, all that fun stuff. Trump isn’t going to replace it with something cheaper and better. I hope anyone reachable sees that now. And I hope it’s a campaign theme.
I love when MAGA types talk about all the kept promises.
- ‘INSURANCE FOR EVERYBODY’
- ‘NO CUTS … TO MEDICAID’:
- ‘NO ONE WILL LOSE COVERAGE’
- ‘NOBODY WILL BE WORSE OFF FINANCIALLY’
- ‘GET RID OF ARTIFICIAL LINES’
- ‘EVERYBODY’S GOING TO BE TAKEN CARE OF’
I feel better already thinking about how good things have gotten.
ETA: some of these are just winning personified:
This isn’t Trump, he doesn’t have the intellect to understand the complexities of the insurance industry. This is straight up Republicans. And yes I know that Trump has taken over the party, but he’s cool with it since it causes pain and hardship.
Are we living out the Republican version of Lord of the Flies?
What about the doctors, nurses, hospitals and clinics out there?
More bankruptcies for people and more deaths, of course.
This.
And the policy reasons and budget reasons for this move are … kill Obamacare as part of erasing his presidency. Destroy the health insurance markets, make companies drop out of providing coverage on the exchanges, make insurance un-affordable and un-gettable, and use these as reasons to eliminate the pre-existing condition and other protections to just go back to pre-Obamacare days of uncertainty and insecurity. Insurance companies don’t like it, the healthcare industry doesn’t like it, people with any compassion and/or sense don’t like it, and people with health care needs sure the shit shouldn’t like it.
What a bunch of evil fucks.
My own pet and patented conspiracy theory is – Hillary hired Donald to destroy the Republican Party by any means necessary.
So far, he’s making a land-office business of it.
Message to Trump and supporters
You’re raising my Blue Cross premiums.
And yours.
Stop it.
Is this the evil long term plan to get rid of HHS? I mean if the cost of health insurance keeps going up it won’t matter how many smaller companies Aetna acquires because the pool of buyers of health insurance diminishes. Thus raising the cost of doing healthcare, thus closing down of hostpitals, clinics, and medical complexes, and then we move into the medical research. Why fund medical research if no one can afford treatments?
I only had one econ class so my Cassandra predictions may be off.
Not to get all snarky or anything, but it would be easy to believe Trump’s master is Baalzebul.
That or a pig head on a stick.
I think it’s Audrey II, feed me Seymour.
Am I totally paranoid in thinking that if Trump continues to dismantle profit predictability for big business that they might take solutions into their own hands about how long Mr. Trump is able to remain in office?
I cannot believe we have “elected” a vandal so intent on destroying our economy, and cherished institutions, even if one of them is health insurance. Will the people who put him there ever wake up, or will they have to be thrown into the gutter first? If so, Trump will gladly do that for them too!
The brunt of higher prices would fall on solid middle-class consumers who are not eligible for the income-based subsidies. Many of those are self-employed people and small business owners, generally seen as a Republican constituency.
Trump: "How many of our voters can we hack to death with machetes before they’ll stop voting for us?
McConnell: “I don’t know. Let’s find out!”
Ryan: “Cool!”
Republican’ts: “Stupid Democrats…”
All legal. All Constitutional.
Our system of government is failing us. The Constitution is not going to save us; it is that Constitution that got is here.
The bigger picture here is that employers are getting out of the business of employer-provided health insurance. Since Republicans are opposed to any kind of government-provided healthcare or health insurance, employees are going to be left to fend for themselves (terms such as high-deductible health plans and health savings accounts are euphemisms for this).
These people watched Man In The High Castle and thought, Yes, John Smith should give his son the needle.
I emailed my senators, who regrettably are cruz and cornyn about the children held in cages. While the responses were template replies, I think the amount of outrage got through to even them. I also emailed the whitehouse.
I’m sending emails again about this latest outrage. We all can at least do the same.
As above
They will blame Obama
They need to be reminded
"We’re going to have insurance for everybody,” Trump said in press conference Jan. 11. “We’re going to have a healthcare that is far less expensive and far better.”
Or, as he said in a September 2015 “60 Minutes” interview, “I am going to take care of everybody. Everybody’s going to be taken care of much better than they’re taken care of now.”
The cruel arse dotard killing more Americans…empathy none cruel childish jealous old g.d. fool…
