Every indication is there was no system in place to track those kids’ locations or plan to reunite them with their families. That was clear from the beginning. So I’m going to assume this is the worst lie they’ve told yet until I hear otherwise from an entity I can trust.
Same admin that declared the leader of North Korea had been brought to his knees by the president’s mighty tweets and nuclear disarmament would soon be accomplished?
The Trump administration can’t tie its shoes on a good day.
There is no way in hell they know where all of the children have been sent and who they are.
Small babies probably have substantial black market value. Getting a sold baby back might also require substantial efforts. All the harder as it appears these children were handed over with even less paperwork than the coat attendant at the opera.
Good thing Trump’s “fixed” this problem and is onto the spreading of grotesque lies and insults on the campaign trail (the return of “Pocahontas”). We can look forward to four straight months of this since “he’s having fun.” Meanwhile, Democrats will be stuck in D.C. throughout August. Lordy, how I hate Mitch McConnell.
I can only imagine how difficult it is to write about subjects like this without slipping into angry commentary. Thanks to all of the TPM journalists for their skills to report and to maintain a professional attitude. Nice work.
The comments section more than makes up for it.
Kidnapping children to try to force an immigration policy down everyone’s throat. In the United States of America in the 21st century.
And it’s not working.
I should say that zero tolerance policy isn’t even working, because those people are desperately searching for a way out of the horror they face in their own countries.
And not even a hint of a hope of a suggestion that anyone might actually be qualified for and granted asylum. For shame. Let’s just send these folks back to brutal violence and unimaginable living conditions without an even cursory look at their situation. What happened to “extreme vetting”?
Truly, but the mixture of organization and chaos in the kidnapping operation deserves note. They had “foster homes,” ad hoc jails and so forth set up all across the country, with flights & buses booked to get there and guards assigned to manage delivery. But overlooked basic documentation. There’s a tale here to be unfolded.
Lies.
Prove it, losers. Not asking for public release of anyone’s PII, but show your list to someone credible – note: Sec. Nielsen, AG Sessions, COS Kelly need not apply. They can’t even keep their lies straight.
The sorry truth is, some of these parents will never see their children again, and all of these kids are scarred for life.
It is against my faith to wish anyone to hell, but I do wish Trump and all his enablers a long and unpleasant time in Purgatory.
Make America Gruesome Again.
We need PROOF that children are being reunited with parents. How about an ongoing registry that tallies each family brought back together. I do not trust any gov. agency such as HHS to do this properly or accurately. An outside agency or law firm could take this on.
“We know where all the kids are. We just don’t know who they are or which parents they go with. Is it OK if you get someone else’s kid? I mean, they’re all brown, right. Maybe you end up with a free upgrade.”
State sponsored child abuse. The USA we are having a difficult time recognizing. MAGA my ass.
I’m having a difficult time recognizing America.
Even if you had perfect records, you can’t send kids across the country and send their poverty-stricken parents home to a tumultuous third-world nation and expect every last one would have the wherewithal to follow up and get the kids back. It’s fucking monstrous and I’m astonished at how easily the bureaucracy went along with it. We repeat ourselves and I’m going to a rally about this tonight but it’s an obvious violation of basic human rights. Tell you one thing, I’d like five minutes in a room with that Miller.

[/quote]The Trump team would say “Let’s just make it worse for them here than it would be any place they’re coming from.” Remember, the goal is deterrence - and keeping the base fired up. And this is how they decided to do it from the beginning.
“…the agency says, many parents have elected to be deported without their children. That may be a reflection of violence or persecution they face in their home countries.”
Sounds to me this statement just validates the immigrant’s claim for asylum, doesn’t it? Yet they are still being deported…
And how do they plan to reunite??? I heard they didn’t even bother to photo ID any of them!!..SMH
Senility-in-Chief doesn’t even know where he left his brain. My guess is probably Moscow.
