Discussion for article #224672
It’s good to see that the Screw the Vote people are wasting their time and money on this and showing their true colors (pardon the expression).
The fact that they went out actively soliciting, switching the campaign points to a Democratic platform, appealing to non-Republican voters on the basis of their welfare payments and all these other kinds of thing…
…Then you add to that the race-baiting that went on…
Clearly race-baiting doesn’t mean what he thinks it means.
True The Vote might as well rename itself as True To The White Vote Only!
When will these nuts accept the fact the state allows all voters the right to participate in ONE primary election.
If both parties were to participate in a primary election, voters may only choose to participate in one, regardless of party affiliation. In fact, how will a poll worker determine if a voter is a D or an R?
Even if the voter stated their party affiliation, how will a poll worker determine if statement is true or not?
That is the question these creeps should be asked, rather than allowing them to continue to get away with saying these silly statements that are truly meaningless, at this point.
No one whines like a Republican, especially a TEA BAGGER.
To my mind they are, again, actively engaged in a conspiracy to distort the election results in favor of Thad Cochran. So that’s my reasons for offering to be involved in a plaintiff," Nicholson said in an interview with TPM.
To your mind?? THERE’S your problem!
Mississippi (like Texas, the “home” of “True the Vote”) has open primaries. They’ve probably had them (like Texas) since Reconstruction.
What is this guy complaining about, except that blacks voted in his white GOP primary?
With conservatives, it’s ALWAYS a conspiracy when they don’t get THEIR way!
“The fact that they went out actively soliciting, switching the campaign points to a Democratic platform, appealing to non-Republican voters on the basis of their welfare payments and all these other kinds of things, basically switching their campaign to a Democrat run campaign, soliciting all those non Republican voters to vote on the basis of Democratic values,” Nicholson said.
Not one bit of which is illegal and will not get them anywhere, at all, once they get into a court room. Their “outrage” doesnt trump election law.
They are basically accusing Cochran of reaching out and appealing to EVERY voter instead of just the Tea Party folks (a novel concept with politics these day, right?)
Tough and too bad. It worked. There was nothing illegal about it. They just reached out to blacks and Democrats…something maybe McDaniel s camp should have tried.
Is it against the law to appeal to all voters, even Dems and blacks? Apparently so, according to McDaniel and his supporters.Suck it up like a man and take your loss and move on. Quit acting like a spoiled brat sore loser, making up lies just to try staying in a race you clearly lost.
I believe Cochran won by 7,000 votes. So those challenging the election results are hoping that 6,999 of those votes were cast by people who had previously voted in the Democratic primary. That should be easy enough to ascertain. Why isn’t that happening in order to shut these malcontents up?
Some GOTP really, really do hate outreach, don’t they?
If he thinks that Mississippi should have closed primaries, that’s the law he needs to change instead of claiming that some unwritten law concerning the ‘sanctity’ of the primaries should have caused his guy to win.
Basically, he’s just trying to unskew the polls.
I would like to encourage Nicholson and True the Vote to vigorously contest this primary election and expose Senator Cochran as a panderer and no true Repugnicant.
I encourage them to continue this fight all the way to the General election, and to spare no invective in stating their case against Cochran.
I support them in using every tool at their disposal, including a write-in campaign for McDaniels, and wish them the best of luck wresting true Repugnicant votes away from that pandering Washington insider.
You and him, fight, fight, fight! Meanwhile, I got some popcorn to pop.
Who’s bringing the beer?
The pay-for-votes angle sounds like it may be a winner. If you can find people who were actually paid to vote on a massive scale (thousands) that might be enough for a judge to intervene.
That was probably their angle all along for the post election tantrum (besides fundraising), they were desperately looking for something they could actually use in court. Not familiar with election law but on a big enough scale I would think this might give them a foot in the courthouse door.
