When I saw the lead up to this story in the NYTimes a week or so ago, I cheered.

For one company, particularly the one that really wants to become the STATE MEDIA and infiltrate the local TV stations is particularly frightening.

The demographic that watches local TV and local news is generally older and less politically engaged (I realize these are gross generalizations, so don’t flame me!), and consequently, tend to ‘trust’ their local anchors, believe what they see on TV, and tend to be more easily influenced by repetitive ‘truths’ fed to them over and over again.

Unlike cable news, the airwaves are public and regulated. We need to get an FCC with some balls.

I miss the Fairness Doctrine.

Cheers to the Tribune Company.

I’d say Tribune has a pretty good case.

Tribune had a right to a nice, private negotiation. Sinclair decided to make a nationwide show of their power. Maybe Sinclair succeeded, maybe they failed. It doesn’t matter. Tribune wound up negotiating with essentially a different company.

Actually, you are spot on about the local news viewership:

When all the old farts who still watch news on tv are dead and gone, will FOX drop dead too? Perhaps it will become a pay-per-view political porn channel? I like to contemplate its demise every chance I get

This consolidation of right wing supporting media is frightening. It can have a profound and unforeseen effect on history and none of it good. It does not create tribalism, but reinforces it.

Now I have to get the picture of Hannity and Ingraham doing porn out of my head.

I’m not sure there is a cure . .
