Discussion: 'Tremendous Victory': Trump Celebrates Kavanaugh Win

The Party of Sexual Assault finds the sign offensive? Well then, time for a 1000 more just like it.

How many men do each of us know who are guilty of acts likeTrump and Kavanaugh? If 3 out of five women are victims who will help lead this fight, how many men who believe as Trump and Kavanaugh, will we need to fight? Men who think they are entitled and are not to be held responsible for their harm to others.

I’m really asking how pervasive is this in our culture and who is among us that we do not realize is an assaulter? How formidable is our fight?

It s absolutely everywhere. It’s the bedrock of Judeo-Christian culture. We are responsible for Original Sin.

Naah, that wasn’t it. Kavanaugh was always going to be confirmed given the current power configuration. By the time Trump made that speech, it was a done deal.

Dems’ only possible chance, and it might not have worked, maybe even been risky, would have been to try harder to make him blow up on the stand, to pound him relentlessly on his alcoholism to account for his supposed lack of memory of the incident. Make him stop filibustering their limited time and stand up to Grassley when he did. Once the GOP went for broke, Dems needed to match it and they didn’t. They went low, we went high. Sigh.

Like Bonvivant, I also watched the Kansas rally (and several others). They’re very predictable: attack the press, crow about the low unemployment numbers – the crowd always seems confused how to react to that, they don’t WANT minorities to be doing as well as white people, his ā€œgreatā€ win, etc. The crowds behind him are increasingly white, there’s not even a pretense of putting minorities on camera anymore.
The other big topic he pounds on is immigration. I had no idea MS 13 was the biggest threat facing rural Kansas or Mississippi.
Lately he’s thrown in some weird stuff. At least the last 2 rallies, he’s bragged about a ā€œbig winā€ he scored while renaming NAFTA – he forced Canada to settle a long-running incredibly obscure dispute with the NFL over, get this, royalties on commercials aired on Canadian television during Super Bowl games. Wow! The crowd is befuddled. It is though at least an opening to scream about standing for the anthem. For that they hoot and holler.
If some ardent Trump supporter has watched all or even 2 of these rallies, the utter predictability and endless braggadocio ought to be deflating. Then again, these aren’t the brightest bulbs in the marquee or the sharpest knives in the Caesar.
And the attacks on Professor Ford – Donnie, he passed despite your ugly display, not because of it.

Well done TPM!

ā€œTrump also revealed that he believed a widely criticized rally speech in which he mocked Ford’s Senate testimonyā€¦ā€

Compare NPR:

9 pm news from NPR:

ā€œTrump credited his own remarks at a rally in Mississippi Tuesday for pushing Kavanaugh’s confirmation over the finish line. At that rally Trump questioned Christine Blasey Ford’s memory of events in a way many took as mocking. -Tamara Keith NPR News, traveling with the president.ā€

This namby-pambuy ā€œin a way many took asā€ bullshit is definitely a huge part of the problem.

This enables all the asshole liars to get away with their assholery.

They just can not say that the president was in fact mocking. Can’t do it. Not possible. Amazing. Malignant assholery will live for ever with this pathetic MSM behavior.

Hatch is retiring and Alan Simpson is long gone–or I am missing your meaning?

No one aware is ignorant of that. Neither am I. It’s why I tag every tweet with #TrumpRussia (see Andrew Laufer)

I was motivated last night and sent money to Beto, Abrams, and Gillum. Feels a little weird sending money to candidates in other states, but I did it.

That was indeed the first step.

I don’t understand the Senate rules but the ā€œpresentā€ vote by Murkowski had something to do with a No forcing Daines to fly back to Washington to cast the 51st vote. So her voting present was a favor to Daines that resulted in the exact same outcome had she voted No but without his having to interrupt his daughter’s festivities. It was a gesture of kindness to a colleague not a symptom of spinelessness.

Just a small sample of odious men who have been Senators. No point other than how many there are and have been.

His life is ruined! And yet he’s sitting on the Supreme Court?! Very difficult to wrap one’s mind around.

They have young (and unwitting) body part donor’s in countries around the world?

Thanks to McConnell nuking the filibuster, Kavanaugh was over the line the moment he was nominated. The Blasey Ford hearing just maybe put the 50th vote in doubt. (Although Collins’ and Flake’s statements in the last several days suggest otherwise.) What put him over once and for all was the ā€œFBI investigationā€ gambit.

ā€œOK, since you all seem to think it’s the key weakness, we’ll go ahead and conduct a [sham] ā€˜FBI Investigation,’ only setup to confirm that no better direct evidence will ever be produced to embarrass us, and then we’ll have the last bit of cover for what we were going to do anyway. While we’re doing that little bit of misdirection, we can test the polling winds. And we can spend the week portraying Kavanaugh as a victim and Democrats as evil for daring to question his #RichWhiteMaleEntitlement to help hide our sham ā€˜investigation.’ Yup, that should do it.ā€

well, much like Barf O’Kavanasty, I’m an optimist…/s…hope springs eternal that some of these dumbfucks will eventually catch on to basic and obvious logic. Perhaps I ask too much…

but yes, certainly they will blame Dems for their own bad choices.

Do they ever, ever show the full venue and the crowd, or lack of crowd? Just Trump and the fans behind him?

There is a meme floating around social media that might deserve some attention. The next time the national anthem is played every woman and every man who supports women’s rights should take a knee.

Kav, the unrepentant alcoholic monster who cares more about hate and revenge given his massive resentment list. Oh but not more than beer! He’s ruined his children’s lives already. His actions are those of a garden variety drunk, and his adolescent vocabulary is what he lives by today. He has an emotional age in single digits.

They never show a crowd shot, always a tight stage shot. It seems be a condition of the coverage, I’d like to ask a member of the WP press whether there were limitations placed on this. He brags about the crowd at every rally, the house is packed and thousands waiting to get in. If that’s always the case you’d think crowd shots would be a positive. And my guess is (not going to waste time finding out), like a one-hit wonder music act, he’s playing to smaller and smaller venues, but he can always draw 5,000 or 10,000 rabid yahoos to show up and yell.
