They got Al Capone for tax evasion.
Donāt matter Iām thinking. His image as a billionaire will be damaged and that would drive him insane. I donāt think he worries about prison as he canāt believe that is even possible.
But they are another piece of the puzzle. And at some point in the game you donāt need the remaining pieces to solve it.
Re-election campaign monies gathered to date. That is why the organization was started so many months ago.
Meanwhile:
basing his conclusion upon an as-of-yet unreleased legal opinion from the Department of Justice.
We have seen the legal opinion. It reads; TRUMP IS ALWAYS RIGHT.
Thatās it. Nothing more.
They had to wait for the decline, and the suit takes time to prepare. Iām more irritated that this wasnāt started on Jan. 4, so that weād have been at this point in early March. It was always obvious they would do this.
Treasury Refuses Congressional Subpoena For Trump Tax Returns

OT, butā¦
āBut polls are backward-looking, so weāre really only talking about a two-week bumpā
Uhhh, didnāt you just get done saying itās NOT a bump in another article, TPM?
Do you not understand how this process works, it is hardly the Democrats fault.
Iām aware of Kilbourn, and itās important to point it out. However, the Secretary may run into a lot of trouble in trying to use it in this instance. First, the House Committee did state a legitimate legislature purposeāin fact, several. Unless the stated purposes are transparently frivolous, that would seem to end the matter. Also, Kilbourn was decided in 1880 and involved a private citizenās confidential affairs. Weāre talking about the President here. The 16th Amendment (authorizing the federal income tax) wasnāt adopted until 1913, and stems directly from the the power of Congress to lay and collect taxes. The means by which income is reported and taxes collected are well within the purview of the relevant House committees. Next, 26 USC 6103 was first passed (I believe) in 1924, and has been amended many, many times since then. Thatās a lot of history, amendments and rule making that never mentioned that the Secretary of the Treasury, as opposed to the person whose returns are sought to be disclosed, is the one who has standing to complain of the lack of a legitimate legislative purpose.
Lock the lying criminal up!
Also China, if youāre listening or reading this comment threadā¦If you happened to āfindā Trumpās tax return records for the past 30 years, RELEASE THEM! Americans will mightily compensate you. Besides releasing Trumpās taxes could be payback for his nightmarish tariffs!
āThe sergeant at arms can, upon orders of the Senate, arrest and detain any person who violates Senate rules.ā That includes ignoring a subpoena.
Speaking of NY state, didnāt they just pass a law allowing their AG to send Trumpās state tax returns to the appropriate House committees? Does anyone know where we are with that?
Neal is in the House, not the Senate. There is no way McConnell will allow a subpoena to be issued by a Senate committee (Burr being the exception that proves the rule) and even less of a way that he would order the Sergeant at Arms to enforce it.
My apology to @chelsea530 for not reading down one more comment before posting.

Itās okay.
TGIF. Maybe @thecaptain started early.
Or maybe he doesnāt know what heās talking about. Lots of that going around as we creep toward the primaries.
I did start early. Itās Black Eyed Susan day. So yea, I typed Scant instead of House.
But the point still stands.
