Discussion: Treasury Dept Reviewing If It Can Enact Tax Cut For Rich Without Congress

Has any government anywhere ever indexed capital gains on equities or bonds to inflation? That’s really a game changer in the US. Lots of bonds would be pretty much tax free. And the bond market is huge compared to the stock market.

They have now dropped all pretense that “tax cuts” = good for the economy or good for creating jobs. It’s almost as if they are racing to give Trump one undeniable record to hold among all presidents - The first one to Bankrupt the United States.

Why don’t they just reinstate a Medieval style feudal society and get it over with already.

Will Mitch and Paul take the opportunity to assert the power of the co-equal branch of government that they lead and slap this down with a veto-proof majority? Nah, I didn’t think so either. Have we gotten any concerned looks and/or a sternly worded press release yet?

An unvoted-on hundred-billion dollar tax cut on capital gains. The Democrats are playing bongo drums and drinking tequila right now in sheer joy that they’re even thinking about it. There’s not a single mainstream commentator who wouldn’t react to this with disgusted contempt. This is a pure mob-style bust-out where you take everything of value from a business and then burn it the fuck down for the insurance money. No difference whatsoever. Just astonishing brazenness.

Another page to file away in the “of course they are” department. At this rate, we’re going to need to construct new federal buildings to hold all the binders. Infrastructure week indeed, except a bankrupt nation can’t afford such extravagances.

Oh, this doesn’t rise to the level of all that. I think at most we’re at the “it’s an interesting idea” phase of concern because, frankly, it’s right up their alley.

Dear Indiana Carrier Employees Who Voted for Trump,

Remember how Donald Trump was going to save your jobs and Make America Great Again? Not only did he not save your jobs, he’s now giving a giant tax cut to the people who sent your jobs to Mexico (the country that still won’t pay for that fucking wall). The icing on the cake is that you get to pay for both! SUCKERS!

Love,

Ken in MN

I sort of discarded the notion the Constitution held much sway on what powers government felt they could wield. The 4th Amendment is essentially gutted. I guess it’s effectively the consensus of those in power, and SCOTUS, the Founders wanted the average citizen to have enough firepower in the form of semi and fully automatic weapons to wage a coup in a small South American nation, just from the armory in their garage and basement. Efforts to nullify the 15th Amendment continue apace.
No, the Constitution is strictly a situational document, in force until it gets in the way of whatever loathsome initiative a collection of idiots manages to convince a plurality of idiot compatriots needs passed. It also needs ignored when any of several minorities become inconveniently close to having full rights to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness too damned close to being realized.

The really surprising part is that he admitted it. Wouldn’t that have been better to send in the double secret newsletter for the wealthy?

My analogy from over a year ago stands - this administration is essentially your local carnival cash-grab-booth.
