Torch-Wielding White Supremacists

is a phrase you never want to start your week with…

And not to parse words too much

The debate over Confederate symbols has swept through cities across the South since the 2015 massacre of nine black parishioners at a South Carolina church. The gunman was a self-avowed white supremacist.

Please explain the reasoning for using the past tense? Have I missed Dylann Roof’s denouncement of white supremacy or did he die over the weekend?

It’s AP. I suppose we should be grateful they didn’t say “nationalist”.

Here’s an idea. Leave these statues up but cover the base with an acknowledgement of what these people were: TRAITORS TO THE UNITED STATES.

There’s some crucial and interesting information missing from this article.

Several dozen torch-wielding protesters gathered in Charlottesville’s Lee Park just after 9 p.m. Saturday, chanting “You will not replace us,” “Russia is our friend” and “Blood and soil.”

If you spend any time on twitter, you’ll eventually encounter alt-righties strenuously asserting that there’s no connection between them and white supremacists and nazis, or between them and Russia. So much for that.

It really has hit the “National Bocialism” level of obtuseness.

I’m disappointed that AP didn’t note that they were wielding citronella tiki torches. Also, no mention of Mai Tais.

Why did the words “Get over it Libtard, Hillary lost” immediately pop into my head ?

You skipped the part about the neonazis chanting “Russia is our friend.”

Well heavens, the AP wouldn’t want anyone to get the crazy idea that these people are part of some larger, trans-national Russian-backed anti-democratic authoritarian movement or anything. Because that would just be so far beyond the bounds of normality comprehensible to followers of the AP Style Book as to bring them down to the level of DFH bloggers.

i.e. a bunch of boring, insecure white boys with shit beards, shit haircuts, and shit fashion showed up with Tiki torches. And seriously, they did show up with Tiki torches. That’s not scary, all that does is put me in the mood for S’mores.

Where are the water cannons when you need one?

The view from the news helicopter showed them attempting to form into a burning cross shape that ended up as a swastika.

Remind me again - why are the people who lost a war 150 years ago worthy of statues?

in a fringe movement that has been described as a mix of racism, white nationalism and populism.

Which is to say, racism, racism and racism (since the only “people” who seem to count in modern soi-disant populism are white people).

Nazi wannabe snowflakes want a safe place for whites? We whites already have the whole country as a safe space. They meant a safe space for their hate. There will be no safe space for them. We can now run them over if they’re on the streets in some states. Time to start a new game - car bowling for nazis. And Westboro.

Obviously it is to honor how they killed more Americans than Bin Laden… wait…

No, but it would still be great to have Richard Spencer speak at our campus because of free exchange of ideas and blah blah blah.
