Discussion for article #240870
When have these unions EVER endorsed anyone 14 months before the election? Not news. Certainly not bad news for Hillary.
They should withhold support until she gets her shit together and starts acting and talking…LOUDLY…like she supports them, understands their needs and will fight tooth and nail for them. THAT may delay support longer than Biden trying to make a decision…and maybe then she’ll get the message she’s running as a Dem on behalf of a largely liberal/progressive base.
And she got some other unions on board.
Rejecting TPP would be a good start in securing additional union support, although I’m skeptical she will do that.
It’s only the media that is dogging Hillary about the emails. Why even include that last paragraph in this article? The only purpose it serves is as a hit job against Hillary, it certainly has no relation to this story.
I know I’ll get eviscerated for saying this, but if ya’ll are honest, you know I’m not off base. I used to get that warm and fuzzy feeling about Bernie Sanders years ago. I’m too much of a realist in my old age to feel the Bern now. As our president, Bernie knows he cannot do anything that the power brokers or Congress won’t allow. He will have to fight corporate owned Democrats like Shumer, along with the Republicans. There are far fewer Democrats who think as Bernie does than those who think like Chuck Shumer. If actually elected, his campaign promises will wither and die on the vine. Against all odds, if Bernie is the actual Democratic nominee, Democrats will feel a different kind of burn. A painful burn that will last a very long time. A Gallup poll back in June shows why Bernie is toast:
Among American voters, voting for a socialist would be dead last behind a Muslim 60%, and an atheist at 58%. Only 47% would vote for a socialist. On Colbert’s show Bernie said he prefers the term progressive, but Bernie is on record claiming to be a socialist for too many years. Unfortunately, the GOP “socialist” attack ads will be brutal, and effective.
From the poll:
More than nine in 10 would vote for a Catholic, black, or woman
Ninety-one percent would vote for a Jewish or Hispanic candidate
Americans show most bias toward socialists (47%), atheists (58%
Hillary has the big money and the political machinery to win. She has establishment power behind her. She also has Bill Clinton at her side. Without saying a word against Bernie, she will win the nomination. As things stand today, she will wipe the floor with any one of the GOP candidates. Bernie is a media distraction in the same manner as Trump is. They both will say what each party base wants to hear, and create the illusion they can actually do what they say. In reality, it’s just a bunch of empty talk to energize the base. George Carlin pretty much nailed our political voting system years ago in his “owners” skit. New poll numbers were released yesterday by CNN. Nationally, Hillary is now backed by 42% of Democratic primary voters. Compare that to 24% for Bernie Sanders, 22% for Biden and 1% for former Maryland Gov. If Biden does not run, Hillary’s support surges to 57% versus Sanders moving up to only 28%. I was going to post the same thing. The last paragraph simply shows that Ms, Krueger is a very lazy reporter, simply regurgitating what others in the media have written, It has become a common trait with TPM reporters in recent times. The common denominator has to be whoever hires TPM reporters. Ms. Kreuger ought to be ashamed. But of course no one at TPM seems to care about integrity. How many stories have run about Trump in the past few days? Where is the TPM story about Clinton gaining in the polls? Any story about Clinton at TPM has to be written with a “hit job” paragraph in it somewhere. TPM reporters continue to reach new lows…and there is no apparent effort to try to improve them.
I’m not afraid to agree with you on Bernie Sanders, especially with the inevitable brick wall blocking his socialism if he wins the primary (and especially general). I’m more surprised at intelligent Dems behind him as a candidate. Many of us fully support what he says, but are realistic to the political process.
I have to disagree about Clinton, and I was a Hillary supporter when it wasn’t cool. I’ve instead cooled on her for several reasons…too conservative, war-hawkish, corporations in close proximity, and C Street/The Family affiliation, among others. I’ll back the Dem nominee, but I hope it will be Joe Biden.
The reasons you give for cooling on Hillary would apply (if not doubly) to Joe Biden. He’s closer to big corporate interests with the Credit Card corporations in Delaware, has been hawkish on war issues in the past, and wrote a draft of the 1994 crime bill. I think Joe is charming as a person, but I don’t think he’d be better President than Hillary Clinton.
