Discussion: Top Trump DOJer Involved In Census Citizenship Push To Defy House Subpoena

I’m sure the House will address this. Sometime next week. Or the week after. For sure.

Lock him up! Only way they’ll stop playing

They’re not in session this week. (As you probably know.)

The congress is toothless and Trump is capitalizing on their weakness. Want to flip the script and get the nation’s focus- Impeach Trump.

I have no illusions about removing him from office, but the least we can do is have a national conversation about his corruption.

Hold him in contempt along with everyone else who lawlessly defy Congressional subpoenas.

The thing to do is to charge these ‘public servants’ with contempt of congress. Just do the whole “you can answer our questions or pay a lawyer a bunch of money before coming to answer our questions” thing.

If the seargeant at arms is only able to arrest those physically present on the capitol grounds, then next year’s SOTU address is going to be pretty high drama.

Oh for…look you have to play hardball with these GOP cocksuckers. You HAVE to. If you don’t, you will just get more and more and more and more of this.

Ever since Mnuchin, they have been cruising along on the idea that the House is composed of nothing but cowards who will do NOTHING if you simply say ‘no.’ This is classic bully behavior.

For any person who ignores these lawful subpoenas, immediately send Capitol Police to arrest their asses; keep them locked up until a judge rules. Play hardball now.

I had a chat with my Millennial son about Mayor Pete (a fellow Millennial).

My son had never heard of him. Well…I FIXED that.

We are going to have to engage with people we can reach and get them involved in the political process.

APATHY is the fundamental reason those who are engaged (the hateful-though-outnumbered GOP Base) hold more sway than they should

IIRC this requires a vote of the entire House. The House is in recess so none of this will happen until early May.

Of course all of them will do this, why wouldn’t they all call the Dems bluff. The Dems have shown no signs they have the guts to actually arrest anyone for ignoring them so yea just ignoring subpoenas and tying stuff up in court is the win strategy here.

Cummings agreed to Mnuchin’s request for a delay until May something … this can’t hold. Please Nancy et al., don’t disappoint us. We realize you’re juggling a lot, but your base (and young voters) will not easily forgive if you don’t start hitting back … HARD. And of course the timing here is all strategic—defying these subpoenas every day while Congress is out.

I mean this does appear to be the case.

Dang. If I were Nancy, I’d vote to change those rules to allow the committee chair that discretion. Much quicker and better managed.

Would a TRO be appropriate here, thereby maintaining the status quo (which is no citizenship question) until all legal efforts are exhausted? Adding the unconstitutional question should not be allowed as long as the issue is being disputed. Just keep the status quo and it’ll be another 10 years before the matter is revisited.

Everyone else went back to work Monday or Tuesday, but not Congress! You’d think that were special or something like that!

Then it goes to the US Attorney -DC office -for a Grand Jury to consider. Most of these are resolved before they get to the US Attorney in DC. Wiki has a good summary and a list of cases.
