Discussion: Top State Election Officials Gather Amid Security Concerns

“The indictments tell us that … no longer can we deny in any shape or form that Russians were involved,” said cybersecurity expert Sam Woolley of the Institute for the Future in Palo Alto, California.

I guess this guy hasn’t been listening to tRump. In tRumpworld, the Russians just want to be our friends.

“Most people operate on machines that are not very secure.”

And we’ve had decades to solve this horrendous problem and haven’t.

And IMO the blame for this falls squarely on MicroSoft. It is their OS that runs on a large portion of hacked machines.

GWB rushed these machines into use. He lined the pockets f the companies that made the machines, but didn’t care that they were hackable. Hell, the GOP WANTED hackable machines.

There’s a youtube video from the early 2000’s that demonstrates this frighteningly.

The general quarters alarm is sounding, folks. You have less than four months to act if you don’t want your state to be part of a national catastrophe. Treat it as the emergency it is.

Demand that your state use 100% paper ballots, especially if you’re in a swing state. No seriously… whatever you were doing, stop doing that and do this, it’s more important.

Funny how much Republicans are willing to do and spend to avoid one illegal vote (with little evidence there are many) yet are totally willing to ignore a well-known enemy from stealing elections. Oh, that’s right, it helps them so all is good.

This Republican intransigence toward voting security is kind of a head scratcher. Don’t they realize that if a Republican running for reelection somehow manages to piss off Russia, the Russians can then manipulate things to let a Democrat win?

Seriously, hasn’t that occurred to them? Is that so outside the box that they can’t comprehend it? Maybe they have to get burned that way before they can comprehend it, I don’t know.

Basic voting security should be a non-partisan issue, it protects EVERYONE.

What a wimp - to Russia.

“All I can do is say, ‘Did you?’” Trump said last week at a news conference in Brussels. “And, ‘Don’t do it again.’ But he may deny it.”

Compare that statement to the berating we saw him give to Merkel/Germany declaring that Germany was essentially owned by Russia due to a pipeline/energy dependence and through around numbers (Fabricated and exponentially exaggerated) as if it were true.

He did he same thing at the G7. And he did it at both of those meetings last year.

But for Putin- no bluster. No accusations (and he actually has factual information at his finger tips per the indictments) but no - just “Are you meddling? No? Okay.”

I call bs on the Pariah President - as does most of the world.
Russian hackers targeted at least 21 states ahead of the election and
are believed to have breached the voter registration system in at least
one, Illinois.
That means, there will be more.

There is now a very serious question facing the people of this country. How are we to know that any official is elected by a majority of the voting population? Assurances from those officials aren’t enough.

We need to have all voting done on paper.

Hopefully these officials will recognize the under the time constraints of the upcoming elections that the safest solution would be the use of paper ballots only! Certainly funds could be obtained in every state to print these ballots. If they still want to use electronic voting systems in 2020, they’ll have time to make sure that the systems are clear of Russian malware, and leave a paper trail.

I think you’ve answered your own question - the Republicans will do nothing about this for exactly the reason you’ve stated.

All electronic voting machines and even scanners of paper ballots should be immediately banned pending full review.

The Gold Standard of election process is paper ballots cast in see-through plastic or otherwise untamperable boxes, with all ballots counted by hand in public at the location where they are cast, before they are moved to a central location or stored.

By people.

No corporations allowed. No fetuses allowed. No other fictitious legislative “people” allowed.

You put your John Hancock down on paper, put your vote in the box, and count them live on tv. Big ratings. Guest appearances. Half-time count breaks filled by a Janet Jackson spectacular.

Come on, Republicans. What do you say?
