âGoing to be close.â As in, âWeâve got this.â
Translation: We ainât gonna do it.
Competition for the two ânoâ votes must be intense.
Cornyn indicated that President Donald Trump will not play a large role in wooing Republican senators to back the legislation.
i.e. âWe donât want that guy fucking things up.â
McConnell probably has the votes with a bit of tweaking⌠Meanwhile, Cornyn likely promised the Kochs more draconian cuts in the future.
Trump will take all the credit.

âItâs hard,â he said, per CNN. âBut thereâs no excuse for failure. ⌠When people want to get to âyesâ you can have good faith negotiation and get them there.â (TX Senator Jon Cornyn - Russia)
Yeah ⌠and if thereâs one thing you Russians are known for is âgood faith negotiating.â Amrite?

Can anyone explain to me without wisecracks how gop sees this bill as an improvement to health care in the US? Iâd just Ike to TRY to understand their motive.
Oh, good. A close vote on something only 8% of Americans want because itâs expected to kill or bankrupt millions of people.
A democracy led by Republicans sure is swell, isnât it?
Do you think they know the vote count?
Iâd say the only way they could have definite knowledge now is if the bill is sure to fail.
By his numbers, it sure looks like close to $1 trillion will be cut, relative to projections under ACA.
Also, a replay to Fleischer and other Republicans should include the number of people who will lose Medicaid.
This is much more informative that a pure dollar figure.
âBut, actuallyâŚâ
@thx1138 The hydraulics on one of his car elevators needs work.
No joke, theyâre taking healthcare/insurance away from poorer Americans to fund a tax cut for rich people. Theyâre going to kill people so Mitt Romney can redo one of his bathrooms. It sounds cynical, but thatâs all this is.
Yeah, whatever. The Ruspublilcans will just âHeilâ and fall in line.
Tax cuts is one aspect. Also, the GOP has long wanted to cut back the social safety net. Medicaid first, then Medicare, then Soc. Sec. and SNAP.
With Johnsonâs rather surprising statement today, it seems like there are 3 above 50% solid Noâs (Heller, Collins, Murkowski) + 4 other buyable noâs from the far right view (Johnson, Paul, Cruz, Lee). Then there are some randoms like Cassidy/Kennedy from Louisiana, Sullivan from AK who could also be ânoâsâ.
The Koch Bros came out against the Senate bill this weekend after meeting with Pence. Thatâs unusual in my view. It seems like the opposite of what Pence wouldâve wanted (that is, unless the Koch Bros have a different motive to promote Pence at Trumpâs expense). Now Johnson, who is a Koch dude, comes out with an op-ed that attempts to shoehorn some old Bill Clinton arguments/quotes to support the view that insurance coâs should discriminate based on pre-existing conditions. The GOP has been trying hard to work around this issue. Now Johnson says thatâs the holy grail he is looking for.
That sounds to me like Koch is taking dead aim at this bill. He doesnât like it ideologically. Heâs a root and branch guy, but that he isnât willing (at present) to carry water for Trump/Mitch on an Obamacare lite bill. For the first time in a while, my Obamacare repeal meter is below 50% (49.5%).
Their motivation? Oh, thatâs easy: Not enough poor Americans suffer enough or die soon enough. The GOPâs goal is to create an economic system where more poor, (poor) disabled and (poor) retired people suffer more and more die sooner. Obviously there arenât enough yachts at the Sunnybrook Yacht Club.
