This is the pseudo-Democratic President who put in his 2013 budget request to Congress a proposal to cut Social Security, that would be to cut the most popular program ever enacted by the Democratic Party.
Why did Obama do that?

Well, well. In the 2012 election 2,500,000 more voters cast their ballots for Democratic House candidates, than for the Republican counterpart. And the Senate remains - at least nominally - Democratic.
So, did Obama want to prove to Democratic voters, Independents and thinking Republican voters (all of whom supported him in the Presidential election) … did Obama want to prove to voters that he was seriously on their side?
No. Obama wanted to prove to Republicans that he was for their position.

Obama has only himself to blame for lack of support from the general populace and from voters.
