And audience member declares:
"You donât make the plan better by taking away insurance for 24 million people across the nation.â
The crux of the matter is that the GOP plans are concerned with lowering federal spending on ACA (hence their language oft used around âefficienciesâ) - not to lower the deficit - but instead to make way for tax giveaways to the very wealthy. This is all important to the GOP. (Side note: when in modern history - have huge tax cuts to the very wealthy ever led to job creation and general prosperity to the general public?)
The GOPâs version of âmaking it betterâ treats the rest of itâs citizens (those of us not among âthe very wealthyâ) with callous disregard.
A big FU to those who lose insurance.
A big FU to those with pre-exisiting conditions.
Another big FU to those who donât have thousands of dollars in the bank to cover extremely high deductibles that were common among pre ACA âlower costâ insurance plans.
A huge FU to everyone - sending us all back to the days when the most common cause for people declaring bankruptcy was due to medical emergencies - including folks who had health insurance.
More proof that the Republican Party has mutated into the same exact entity that the Communist Party was in the USSR.
Republicans and Soviet Communists both believe that the sole purpose of government is to enrich a tiny elite at the expense of everyone else.
We need to make each and every Republican from the top to the bottom defend that little Brownback/Laffer experiment currently in progress in Kansas.
I agree. Longest running political myth (taken as biblical truth by the GOP) of my adulthood. Brownbackâs experiment (I still canât believe he was reelected) should be text book for the GOP, but it isnât (due to mythology - oh an an incredibly large rw corporate media that reiterates the myth multiple times a day.) Letâs start with members of the House - starting with PAynul Ryan.
The good news is that more people are actually taking a second look at the dunces they casually reelect.
Itâs about time. Their mediocrity is obvious.
Iâd say it was a raucous caucus.
"The congressman said that he wants to keep certain parts of Obamacare, like protections for those with pre-existing conditions, but change other aspects of the law.
âI want to fix it, so it will work,â Walden said, per OPB."
Except it has been proved that that wonât work. To cover pre-existing conditions there has to be a large pool of healthy people investing in insurance. The Republicans want to cut that pool back to almost nothing. End of story.
I think it more than that, I believe after all the fighting about enacting the PPACA more people are more knowledgeable about insurance and the health insurance industry. Change is hard, but when you finally get what the program does, how it helps, and seeing what happens in states that didnât expand their Medicare going back doesnât look too good, idiots or mediocrity notwithstanding.
The anger aroused by the tea party never really went away. Itâs often irrational, and it takes a giant bat to the side of the head for them to change their focus, but I think thatâs finally happening.
When it becomes this nakedly obvious that their Congressman is out to screw them, the light bulb goes on. Plus, thereâs got to be a few progressives in that bunch as well. I hope they all voted - or at least, I hope they all vote next time.
Side note: when in modern history - have huge tax cuts to the very
wealthy ever led to job creation and general prosperity to the general
public?
The answer to that is a resounding NO, and it has been tried twice, recently, under Reagan and under Bush Jr.
Itâs the worldâs most blatant self-serving argument: Make me and my friends richer and that will be the best thing for everybody. It has been roundly disproven, but they never let it go.
Iâll admit I havenât been keeping track as closely as I used to, but isnât it also these Republican Nudnicks who mess with the bankruptcy laws every time they can to make it harder for people to do bankruptcy in general?
If only the people of the country mattered to RepublicansâŚ
Itâs funny how he talks about fixing it rather than eliminating it when he faces informed opposition. He needs to tell his buddy Ryan that repeal is not the right answer. When they donât think about real consequences itâs easily to gleefully talk about repeal.
Sometimes I wonder if the âmoderateâ Republicans like this guy arenât the real enemy. He, Ryan and the gang were really trying to screw the American people to free up money for their donors. Luckily they got caught. Now they are paying the price, but if you think for an instant they arenât going to try again you are sadly mistaken.
Heâs a moderate??
Wow. So there are a few Americans who are now awake! Who knew?
That is the reason for the quotes. The press seems to be trying to separate the Freedumb Caucus crazies from guys like Ryan. Ryan and Walden want to steal for their donor friends because they are crooked grifters plan and simple. The Freedumb Caucus wantâs to burn the entire government down.
'the AHCA is a âwork in progressâ that âneeds to be improved,â âŚuh huh. So for 6 years you sat on your asses and didnât do a damn thing and now you want everyone to sit back and âacceptâ the âdisruptionâ because you got âphasesâ? WTF Chump?
Phases, they ainât got no stinking phases. If they did they would tell you about them.
Generally when bills are a âwork in progressâ and need to be improved you donât rush them to a vote to make them the law of the land. Except if you need to kill a bunch of poor people to pay for a tax cut.
