So Pete, I guess you need to work on your sales pitch. âYouâre going to pay lots more for coverage or maybe lose it altogetherâ is not really popular. Who knew?
Amazing - these same 'pubs seemed 100% united during the 60+ repeal votes when they knew that President Obama would veto any repeal that came to his desk yet now they canât find common ground.
Weak. No, sad!
When youâre telling your constituents to literally âFuck off and dieâ itâs very important to have a good sales pitch.
Pfft. Everybody knows that.
Folks, this piece of healthcare legislation is a real beauty. Never been to the hospital even once. If you folks donât buy it right now, someone else will take it within the hour. I guarantee it. Go kick the tires and see; they are genuine rubberâŚ
People were sold that the ACA did not work and needed to be replaced, and replaced with something better, thats what most voters wanted who voted for the gop. It is hard to sell voters that millions will lose insurance, everyone will pay more, and rural hospitals will close is better â maybe the Russian folks can help the gop with that messaging.
it tells you how Republicans view their constituents⌠as rubes that can be marketed to like you were selling the new brand of dipâŚ
it also tells you how good âbusinessman extraordinaireâ Cheeto Donnie is⌠he canât even close the deal in his own party let alone help sell it to constituentsâŚ
Translated Pete: This is hard: we havenât figured out how to convince folks that dying young is good for them. Our bad.
The people back home are not sold on what weâre doing yet
Much the same way the Jews werenât completely sold on the âArbeit macht freiâ program.
Wow. On the one hand - I think he was shaken up by that raucus town hall last weekend. The one where he told folks essentially that they donât listen, that he was going to vote for repeal and replace (despite them) and they started chanting âVote Him Outâ. He didnât show he was shaken - but clearly this statement is much less firm (than the full steam ahead despite you folks! attitude that he displayed on the video of the town hall.)
It also shows that he needs to do some work selling - more effectively than smacking down his constituents with of course youâre frustrated because You Donât Listen (as opposed to of course youâre frustrated, because health care is important and you are fearful of how it might change, but that would require giving a f*ck.)
You know whoâs going to be an especially hard sell, Pete? The people this legislation will fucking kill. Youâve got your work cut out for you, persuading them how right and necessary to the greater good their deaths are.
You are having such a rough time getting Part One done we all know you will head for the hills when the imaginary Parts 2 and 3 are discussed.
Is he trying to set up Trump for the blame?
Or, as Trump might say: You guys are lousy liars, let me show you how to do this!
âBut members also are having problems with people back home, and thatâs the problem. Itâs the people back home who are being very vocal, who are in a lot of these conservative groups that do not understand the bill because it has not been sold properly to them. Thatâs the real problem. Not the President. Not whether they do or donât want to vote,â Sessions said. âThe people back home are not sold on what weâre doing yet, and thatâs partially my fault also. Iâve tried to take the time to explain to the American people why weâre doing this, but we recognize itâs back home voter, not Washington, D.C. voter.â
Interesting that heâs not blaming âoutside liberal agitatorsââŚ
Letâs see:
7 years to make the pitch: Check
Not the same product that was promised: Check
Non-zero chance that purchasing product will bankrupt you and kill a loved one: Check
Rushed production: Check
Failed quality control: Check
Way more expensive than better product currently on the market: Check
âGee whiz guys, Itâs so hard to sell! People are too stupid to understand what weâre offering them!â
[snark]Remember, folks. These are Republicans. The party of business super-geniuses who worship John Galt, hallowed be his name. [/snark]
What is there to sell. Twenty Four Million lose coverage, people over 50 can no longer afford insurance. It is a totally fucked up bill. I donât know how you put lipstick on that pig.
This is a bit of circular reasoning, no? When I tell people I donât like mole chickenâor mole anythingâsomeone usually says, âOh, you just havenât had GOOD mole.â To which I always say, âYes, precisely.â
This just wasnât effectively marketed because its marketing wasnât effective. Yes, precisely. Of course, that might be because it tastes like healthcare policyâs version of burnt mocha.
Especially since he faced a loud and angry town hall meeting over the weekend. He easily could have played the fake news âbused in liberal protestersâ, but he didnât. I think that is significant.
"But members also are having problems with people back home, and thatâs the problem. Itâs the people back home who are being very vocal, who are in a lot of these conservative groups that do not understand the bill because it has not been sold properly to them. "
Phone calls and letters and protests work. Pour it on.
