I still think North and South Carolina should be merged into one state named Harding.

Actually a woman, Kathy Castor, but absolutely someone that would know about sea level rise. I watched something not that long ago about what was being done in Fla. in certain cities to deal with it and they’ve been on it for a bunch of years.

I’m wondering whether this will end up in the federal courts.

1000% (yes, one thousand percent) agree with you.
I’d do the same thing to the bleeping Dakotas.
And i’d be happy to let you provide whatever name as well.

Incoming Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) tapped a Florida Democrat with a strong record on environmental advocacy to lead her new Committee on Climate Crisis, reviving a 2007 committee that focused on energy independence and global warming.

Rep. Kathy Castor (D-FL) will head the special climate committee, Pelosi said in a statement on Friday, confirming reports that she planned to make use of the House’s new pro-environment majority and examine climate change.

“Congresswoman Castor is a proven champion for public health and green infrastructure, who deeply understands the scope and seriousness of this threat,” Pelosi said in a statement. “Her decades of experience in this fight, both in Florida and in the Congress, where she has been an outstanding leader on the Energy and Commerce Committee and on the House Democratic Environmental Message Team, will be vital.”

As the Atlantic noted, the Climate Crisis committee won’t have the authority to draft legislation and it likely won’t have quite the same subpoena power as her previous Select Committee on Energy Independence and Global Warming, which was dissolved when Republicans took back control of the House in 2010.

The formation of a committee focused on the climate crisis was one of Pelosi’s 2018 campaign promises, but it is unclear what all the committee will do. Several environment-focused members of the Democratic caucus — who have pushed for a Green New Deal committee — have expressed concern that the committee won’t go far enough to combat climate change or to create a unified climate policy for Democrats.

Aren’t the election officials who refused to certify the election also Republicans? They don’t even have a column of air to stand on. (But that won’t stop Faux Knews outrage.)

The NC legislature just changed the NC election laws, over the governor’s veto, so that they could hold another primary, with the obvious intent of pushing Harris aside. It will probably be challenged in court so NC district 9 might be without a representative for some time.

Do I? It just seems more efficient. We may have far too many states. Canada has, what, 10 provinces and 3 territories and they seem to go about business fairly well. Perhaps democracy and federalism would work better if we combined the states into 10 provinces demarcated using logical geographic criteria.

This Harris crook from NC09 can’t sit at the 116th Congressional Table! Not now and not ever!

Not a real bad idea (Imagine the echo in a mostly empty Senate chamber), but it would require a Constitutional Amendment, and for that, you want to make sure you have 3/4 of the State legislatures not controlled by the anarcho-nihilist-bandit faction. (A Constitutional convention would be even worse.) Can you imagine Trumpublicans writing a new Constitution?

They think everything that doesn’t go their way is an “act of war”. Let them. It isn’t going to get violent because the GOP base is too old, too lazy and way too afraid of their own “element” to take to the streets. The few KKKers, Nazi’s and dead enders who would be willing to mix it up have already tried and lost. We need to stop being afraid of the GOP.
