Discussion: Top GOPer: Senate Must Wait Until New Congress To Replace Holder

Discussion for article #228163

And they claim Obama is a dictator, more like the Koch brothers have become our dictators and have locked us up with their Tea Party. I am not even sure there is a GOP any more, just the despotic party of the extreme right wing,

Because even though you are in the minority, you sonsofbitches think you’re in charge.

Obama is the FREAKING president. He makes appointments and you hold hearings, as well as voting to confirm them. Sounds to me Senator Barrasso, you and the rest of the Republicans don’t want to do YOUR jobs that our tax dollars pay for!

This is amusing: presumption that the Senate is gonna flip. I hope somebody asks that greasy little punk Barrasso about this prediction on Nov 5.

Sanctimonious prick. No Barrasso…you are NOT President and you don’t get to ā€˜decide’. Kiss my rosey red.

The Republicans are so confident that they will gain control of the senate.

In November, remember to vote and prove these assholes wrong!

ā€œAnd if they try to do this in the lame-duck session, this will clearly poison the well and will define what we’re going to see for the next two years, the final two years of the presidency of Barack Obama,ā€ Barrasso concluded."
Your one of the reason’s the well is so poisoned, arsewipe!
Luckily, it only talks 51 votes to confirm a new AG! So filibuster to your little hearts content Barrasso, cause the president will gets who he wants as AG, not who the minority wants!

What is the state of the 2014 senate race?

The senator slammed Holder as a divisive attorney general and said that Americans need someone different.

So IOW’s, we NEED a new AG, but only when WE decide to vote on one.

Got it.

If it happens, it would be the first time since the Civil War that we’ve had a vote on an attorney general in a lame-duck when parties switched,"

I’m curious. How many times since the Civil War has there been a vacancy in the AG’s office when the Senate has flipped?

And, really, if he’s so concerned about confirming Holder’s successor during a lame duck, why not ask Reid to hold hearings in October? AFAIK, there is no constitutional requirement that the Senate must recess until November.

You mean the way that Robert Gates, George W. Bush’s nominee to replace Donald Rumsfeld, was confirmed by a lame duck Congress in December 2006?

ā€œAs far as the lame-duck session, the last time I looked, we’re still at work and being paid until next January,ā€ he said. ā€œWe’re still the Congress of the United States. Let’s see what the president does.ā€

STILL at work? Hahahahaha

Where’s that section in the Constitution that says Congress has to stop carrying out their specifically enumerated responsibilities in the period preceding an election or installation of any new members?

Oh, non-existent, eh?

I guess they missed the part where Holder said he’d stay on until a successor is confirmed. The longer they delay the longer they have Holder who they don’t like.

Can’t wait until the GOP takes over the Senate, when they’ll do a 180 on the rights of the minority party to dictate the agenda. My guess is they’ll pass out coloring books and crayons on the first day of the new session and give Dems their orders to shut up, sit down and color.

He’s pulling his confidence out of his barrASSo, because Senator Leahy, chairman of the Judiciary Committee feels quite differently

Leahy said he hopes to go over names with Obama next week and hold a nomination hearing soon after the president announces his pick.
