Discussion: Top GOP Senator: Health Care Proposal 'May Not' Get A Majority Of Votes

My Senators are Mike Lee and Orrin Hatch. I believe they’re appointed for life.

I wouldn’t be so sure about that: http://talkingpointsmemo.com/dc/gop-obamacare-repeal-questions

True, and think about 2020. They’re either going into that redistricting year with PP at the the top of the ticket or Pence, a guy nobody voted for.

As for 2018, they may not have many Senate seats to worry about, but there are a whole lot of key governorships up for grabs that could make it even tougher for the GOP in 2020 by simply rolling back voter suppression tactics. So, the bill not come due fully in 2018, but the principal plus interest and late fees is coming in 2020.

They obviously don’t care about people dying. What they do care about is running against a bunch of dead bodies.

It should kill them politically, but the Republicans won’t care as long as the dead people aren’t rich, beautiful, white ones.

So let’s count the GOP ‘No’ votes. There are 52 GOP Senators. I assume they intend to move this through reconciliation so they only need 51 (or 50?. I read 50 somewhere but don’t understand how that is not a tie) votes?

  1. Portman (OH)
  2. Capito (WV)
  3. Gardner (CO)
  4. Murkoswki (AK)
  5. Paul (KY)
  6. Collins (ME)?
  7. Cassidy (LA)?
  8. Lee (UT) ?

Who am I missing?

Frankly, I don’t know how any Senator from the poor southern states could vote ‘yes’ and survive but those people remain a mystery to me.

Conversely, who on this list are only preening for the camera and will capitulate when the vote is called?

UPDATE: It just dawned on me. 50 votes plus VEEP tiebreaker)

I’ve heard a lot of tough-guy talk from Republicans in the past, only to watch them fold like tissue paper when the votes are counted. I won’t believe a word they say until I see it backed up by action. Talk is cheap.

Is this from the Superman TV episode where these guys come out of the ground??? I think it’s a two-part show. Holy smokes. That scared the piss out of me as little boy. Wow. I got a chill seeing this photo now.

Yes, it’s from Superman and the Mole Men. It scared me as a kid too, particularly when the Mole Men used their Electrolux vacuum cleaner (pictured) to shoot a death ray at the evil, bigoted townsperson (Jeff Corey).

I think they’re already onto Plan B. They’ll somehow blame the democrats for causing this bill to die (unless what all the complainers want is some perks for their districts), and then just wait while “deregulation” and “waivers” and general incompetent administration drive insurance companies out of the market. Then they can pull a big rescue move from the obviously failed remains of the ACA.

This is the kind of winning I won’t get tired of. Thanks, Donnie!

The whole bill is a death bill.
