There is no GOP plan, never was and never will be.

Life was pretty hellish for them under Obama; most of them could obtain quality, affordable health insurance, there were no trade wars to increase their equipment costs and threaten their exports to China, and their president was black.

That sums it up nicely.

Not true.

It’s called colloquially, ā€œObamacareā€.

Peepahcah otherwise.

Doesn’t he realize nothing is ever truly gone from the internet; you can delete but you can’t truly erase.

This guy looks like he’s casting about for a race he can win - doesn’t matter if he’s resident in the district or what. Carpeteabagger?

According to the innernets, he lives in Farmington Hills, which is represented by Brenda Lawrence, not one of the two newly elected women.

Little national help? I don’t think so.

Are you sure this guy’s real first name isn’t Tom? And we are all his nephews? Is that why they call him ā€œUncle Tom?ā€

Nope

It’s just what they want when they ask for the end of the Deep State (civil service) doing so much damage to profits and uh, entrepreneurs… and all they have to do is repeat the three pages of catch phrases like that. He’s attractive, black, and totally nonthreatening!

Well, I hate to have to say this as well, but I’m gonna use the word…TOKEN.

Being an African-American Republican in a party that above all values their attraction and recruitment of racists, nazi-lovers, white supremacists and xenophobes, is one of the dumbest affiliations I can think of.

Totally agree with you. If James is running, he’s running against Peters. Both have military backgrounds and Peters has been low key if not almost invisible to the public at large, not just in Michigan but nationwide as a Senator. Yes, I get the emails from him regularly, but he still has a lot to do to bring up is image and stand out as a fighter on any particular issue. He’s really a nice guy but not out there enough to be noticed. Stabenow’s thing has always been the Great Lakes restoration and agriculture. People in Michigan know what she advocates for. Peters…not so much yet. We Michiganders need to hear from him more with some deliberateness.

James will recruit all the other R black men in Congress (are there any black women?), then they’re going to find a phone booth, probably at a city dump, and hold their planning sessions it.

He had big shoes to fill and that was always going to be part of the issue going forward for him. Long time and beloved Michigan Senator, Carl Levin, retired…Like I say, big shoes to fill. It seems to me, he has yet to carve out his own distinction in the Senate, and I’m saying this as a native Michigander.

Also, the committees he’s on as a ranking member get very little attention in the age of tRump. Being on the Armed Services Committee used to be a really big deal that got lots of attention, especially regarding any foreign interventions. Today, its totally ignored by both the executive branch as well as the news media in general with so many other things grabbing attention.

Good article by Krugman, but he only touches on how Trump tariffs are killing the average farmer and their associated communities.

14 months after ā€œtrade wars are easyā€, Trump’s trade wars are increasing, the trade deficit has increased under Trump, US consumers are paying the cost, whatever the Liar in Chief says. It started with washers, dryers (latter not from the tariffs, but manufacturers jacked dryer prices at the same time), and corporations are paying more for production steel and Al (Deere and Caterpillar both have $100M higher production costs, passed on to farmers). Farmer exports have crashed, and Trump’s $12B farmer payout compensation in reality paid very little and fractions of what farmers received on the historical open market.

Trade wars with China, Canada, Mexico, EU, India, you name it. Total disaster. American icon Harley-Davidson moved operations to EU because of retaliatory tariffs.

Dude, we’d all like better, cheaper health care and if you can do that in a market-driven way so be it. You are a Republican and you all say the same thing.

Well - we’re waiting.

What’s taking you so long.? After all these years you must have a plan nearly worked out. Right?

James is an empty suit and the people of Michigan already let him know that. His campaign on behalf of the Michigan Klan, er, GOP went exactly nowhere, despite this execrable article’s attempt to portray it as otherwise.
